For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk [McCain had an affair?]

Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.

Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.

The timing of this makes no sense. There’s probably nothing to it but if there is, why now? It’s way too early. They’d keep it until the week before the election like the story about Bush’s DUI.

Nobodys accusing McCain of having an affair with this lady. His crime is talking to her because she is a lobbyist. You inferrred what they wanted you to. That's the way sleazy scumbag bastards at the Times, MSNBC and the DNC operate.

Dittos!

Well, Romney’s campaign I believe is actually still just “suspended.”
Romney can “direct” his delegates to McCain, which is what he said he would do.
The endorsement press conference was more about perception and influencing those still voting, than about changing the actual delegate calculus.
Romney wanted to make sure that Huckabee doesn’t have any hand to play at the convention where he could possibly broker the VP spot.

And speaking of that endorsement event, first of all, didn’t it look like some sort of weird hostage tape, quickly thrown together in some basement, with a flag tacked to the wall as a back drop?

And seeing McCain next to Romney, was there ever a time where it was more obvious the GOP had made a terrible mistake and had picked the wrong guy? Seeing them together like like gave me a knot in my stomach, as I felt the ultimate Buyer’s Remorse.

Sure, and you sound like you have pictures?

Question, is Vickie sitting on McCain’s lap while on Gary Hart’s yatch?

Monkey Business?

Keith probably had to double up on his pantie liners for this one.

Probably doubled up on his mascara and eye shadow as well.

He was a prisoner of war not in jail, and the torture he endured was much more than just abuse.

The guards at Abu Gurab were abusive. John McCain was tortured.

Criminals are sent to Jail. Soldiers become a prisoner of war. Only the Communists and you seem to think he was a criminal in jail.

Rush was right! As soon as he became the heir apparant the news media that previously gushed over him and his views turned on him. And, apparantly, months after the story had been originally finished.

Many of us here predicted it before Rush did

This is the Slimes first attempt at discrediting the Republican candidate after endorsing what they thought was the most beatable candidate the Pubbies could put forth. I hope they choke on their words.

Let's see who's stock tanks faster, NY Slimes or McCain's.

Hello,

What I meant by my post is that perhaps others (Hill?) has more to gain by this story hitting now in terms of Independents picking JM over her.

Your insight is entirely possible as well. Politics is the art of who is getting hurt, by who and who benefits from the smack down.

“Did you read the story? It only says there may have been some concern of an appearance of impropriety. No one substantiates an affair. If the NYT really wanted to destroy McCain they would have saved this for October. Now there is plenty of time to refute it.”

You are correct. This a whole lot of smoke and no fire. It’s just the NYT and the MSM trying to influence the outcome now that Hillary is toast.

Exactly.

The really funny part- there is no story! It’s the hype of the story- the story was already on Drudge 2 months ago..and there’s no news in tonight’s piece.

Sometimes I think we’re being tested to see how far we’ll fall- can a story be manufactured out of tidbits from the past that aren’t important or significant- and we be manipulated into behaving as if there was a story..
