Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.
A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.
The double standard doesn’t apply here because McCain isn’t a Republican.
This is a hillariously desperate smear.
The Times has been digging into this for months, and this is all they managed to dig up?
“In 1999, some woman hung around with McCain. They once flew together WITH A CAMPAIGN AIDE on a corporate jet. Because of the possible appearance of impropriety, aides intervened to keep them apart.”
This is a news story? Ha.
“Here’s my theory: Hillary Clinton and the Clinton smear machine knows that Obama will be exposed next week for the limo affair in 1998. Now that McCain had the GOP nomination wrapped up, stop him now as well.”
While I’d really like to see the Obama limo thing be true. I don’t think it will break soon enough to matter. The Dems have turned on Hillary. Hillary is finished until at least 2012. Even if the limo thing turns out to be true, Obama will still get nominated while the Dems try to find a positive way to spin their candidate having homo sex in a limo. Don’t worry, they’ll find some way to make it alright.

What we went through in 2000 and 2004 is going to be nothing compared to what is in store for McCain.

I do not choose socialism at all. I am but one mere vote in a state that will likely not carry for the GOP for the first time in several elections. McCain is as bad a candidate as the GOP could have scrounged up from the dregs of politics.

John McCain having an affair with a lobbyist and lobbying for her in front of his committee will effectively end his chance of being elected.
If the GOP sticks with McCain, then the party is coronating Obama.
Does the GOP want Obama to walk into the White House unopposed, just as he walked into the Senate unopposed?

I don’t think Romney “sent McCain” his delegates...I think he freed them to back McCain if they wanted to. No?
And is anyone surprised? A betrayer betrays. it is a part of his character (or rather, lack thereof) to do so.

McCain gets the needed whack in the face that the media is not his friend anymore and Republicans with the requisite testosterone will understand that we fight with McCain or we get swamped in November and the New Great Society can destroy the suburbs and exurbs the way they destroyed the urban family.
And of course we can begin to bomb our allies in the WOT rather than the terroists a la that great warrior Barack Obama.

The limo story will be known next week. The man making the claim is scheduled to take his polygraph test on Tuesday.
And everyone with half a brain knew from the get-go that as soon as it looked that McCain had the nomination sewn up, the MSM would start beating him like a rented mule.
