Early in Senator John McCains first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.
A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a clients corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself instructing staff members to block the womans access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyists clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.
“the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, and has hired DC power lawyer Bob Bennett to mount a bold defense”
Even went with Clinton’s lawyer.
Tepidly, until the left attacks and then I choose sides. I choose McCains side over Obama, Keith Olbermen DU, Code Pink, Punch Sulzberger and terrorists everywhere.
You choose socialism without a fight.
Not in my nature to do so.
Beat me to it
May I inquire as to what it is you are smoking, because I want some.
Wish Conservatives had as much control over McCain, as the NY Times’ editor does!
“top advisers to McCain have intervened to protect McCain from himself.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? McCain is on suicide watch?”
From the article.
8 years ago they saw what was going on with this woman and tried to stop him from political suicide.
I was wondering if the girl looked like one of his wives. Most men are attracted to a certain type of woman. I’d like to see a picture of Cindy when she was a model.
If only I could spell New instead of Hew :)
So- in December we had Fred looking fair to good...we had Romney looking good to possible nominee...with McCain and Huckabee holding steady.
What difference would it have made if this (story,non-story) had been released before Iowa?
You’re getting hot, Rose!
I skimmed over the article and found there to be nothing of substance. It’s all just insinuation and gossip. At worst, one of those “emotional affairs” that aren’t affairs at all. Really, this can only help McCain. McCain does not forgive or forget those who betray him. All this will serve to do is remind McCain that, while he was being tortured in a POW camp in Vietnam, these people betrayed him.
Understand, there is a double standard. RATs are not depending on too many moral people voting for them. This is a Clinton maneuver. I am sure they plan on taking out Obama, but when they do, they do not want them going to McCain.
No matter what, it will take McCain out, as though he had a chance anyway.
The GOP doesn’t have super-delegates.
Crimminy, I’ve got a picture in my head of John McCain doing the beast with two backs that I won’t soon get out...blecchh...
It’s that miracle, Huckabee has beeb waiting for.
The Slimes HAS to do something to avoid reporting on Cankle’s monumental collapse.
She says he was "nothing special".
Ehh, this doesn’t have a “huck” feel to it, but you never know, this just smells Clintonesque.
It sure IS, and we conservatives LOVE it!!!
The source is the NYT, and they had the story since last Christmas.
