SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- After years of declining sales, The Sharper Image -- known for creature comforts and gadgets like robotic massage chairs and $170 toothbrushes -- has gone belly-up, declaring bankruptcy Wednesday. In a brief statement, Sharper Image (SHRP:
SHRP 0.41, -1.03, -71.5%) announced it had filed for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, but that it "intends to continue to conduct business as usual while it devotes renewed efforts to resolve its operational and liquidity problems and develops a reorganization plan."

Loved to look at their gadgets, but the prices always drove me away That's the way I feel about Williams Sonoma....I bought a KitchenAid stand mixer Artesian and paid $219 at Kohl's and saw the exact same mixer at WS for $299...who are they kidding?

In the early 1990’s they had some unique products and sales reps who knew the products.
Then came the internet, Amazon.com, and other internet vendors.
Their sales went down, and they kept raising their prices.
Their catalogs were loaded with over priced items of minimal if any need.

Good riddance. Next up: radio shack, Brookstone, and SkyMall. At least Radio Shack has electronic components you would have a hard time getting elsewhere. I would hate to see Radio Shack disappear.

Best search engine in the industry, blows Newark and Allied out of the water.

I used to like to wonder through the Sharper Image stores and look at all those useless gadgets. I never bought anything, but I always wondered who the hell did buy any of that overpriced stuff. ;~))
