SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- After years of declining sales, The Sharper Image -- known for creature comforts and gadgets like robotic massage chairs and $170 toothbrushes -- has gone belly-up, declaring bankruptcy Wednesday. In a brief statement, Sharper Image (SHRP:

SHRP 0.41, -1.03, -71.5%) announced it had filed for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, but that it "intends to continue to conduct business as usual while it devotes renewed efforts to resolve its operational and liquidity problems and develops a reorganization plan."

Where else will I get my nose hair trimmer?
Rotary or reel type?

Stop that! I'm trying to stifle breaking out in hysterical laughter at work.

If I finish my W.E.B. Griffin book before the flight’s over, maybe. I try to time it just right.

I keep going in the store, lured by the promise of high-tech niftyness, and keep coming out empty-handed. There really is nothing in there, save maybe only things that I can get better at Radio Shack or Wal-Mart.

I thought they settled a class action suit that they didn't do what was advertised.

Over the years, I was gifted with two rather expensive items from “Sharper Image”.

Both were poorly designed and manufactured — each failed to work at all after less than 30 days.

Even before the items failed - they were substandard performers at a ridiculous price..

When I returned both gifts for a refund - I was shocked at the cost...

Shaper Image — all “Image” and no SHARPER..

Hey, I once saw a guy stopped for a red light trimming his with a pair of wire cutters.

Now, THAT’S a man...

When I was around 38 I got my first nose hair trimmer. I had never used one before. It was a cheap Vidal Sassoon thing. It was either defective or poorly designed and essentially twisted my nose hairs around the spinning mechanism and ripped them out by the roots. I would let out a little yelp even before I used it and my hand would shake and my eyes would tear. My wife used to ask to watch me use it and would and laugh and giggle like a little girl. I laughed to, through my tears. I finally threw the thing away and bought a Wahl, which doesn’t hurt a bit.

My theory is that the Chinese make defective products on purpose just because it’s funny.

What can you get at SI that you can’t get on Amazon?"

What can you get anywhere that you can't get on Amazon? I wouldn't be surprised if they sold crack too! With free shipping!!

With Sharper Image gone, there’s going to be a big vacuum to fill. I vote for DAK Industries to make a comeback. Drew needs to send out more of those catalogs.

Personal note: I got my first portable CD player from the DAK Industries catalog...it was probably around 1988 or so. Brings back memories.
