Fort Hood, named after Confederate General John Bell Hood, is a U.S. Army post located halfway between Austin and Waco, in Killeen, Texas.

John Bell Hood (June 1, 1831 – August 30, 1879) was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. Hood had a reputation for bravery and aggressiveness that sometimes bordered on recklessness, and was considered one of the best brigade and division commanders in the Confederate States Army.

A 340 square mile installation (217,337 acres), Fort Hood is the only post in the United States capable of stationing and training two Armored Divisions.

The rolling, semiarid terrain is ideal for multifaceted training and testing of military units and individuals. Fort Hood is "The Army's Premier Installation to train and deploy heavy forces."

In addition to the 1st Cavalry Division and 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood is also residence for Headquarters Command III Corps, 3d Signal Brigade, 3d Air Support Operations Group, 13th Support Command (Expeditionary), 13th Finance Group, 21st CAV Brigade (Air Combat), 89th Military Police Brigade, 504th BfSB, the Dental Activity (DENTAC), the Medical Support Activity (MEDDAC), U.S. Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC), and various other units and tenant organizations.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are, God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

BLESS THIS HOUSE
 Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon

Around her neck
She wore a yellow ribbon,
She wore it in the springtime
And in the month of May.
And if you asked her
Why the heck she wore it,
She’d say “It’s for my lover
Who is in the U.S. Calvary”.

Refrain:
Far away!
Far away!
She wore it for her lover in the U.S. Calvary.
Around her neck she wore a yellow ribbon.
She wore it for her lover who is in the U.S. Calvary.

Around the block she pushed a baby carriage. . .

Around her thigh she wore a yellow garter. . .

Behind the door her daddy kept his shotgun. . .

And in the church the preacher kept a license. . .

The 1st Cavalry Division, nowadays is Mechanized Infantry and Armour, but during Vietnam, it was Air Mobile.

I proudly served in A Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cav, 1st Cavalry Division, (Airmobile), from April 1st, 1970 to April 1st, 1971.

IIICorps, Tay Ninh, 4-70 to 7-70, Songbe, Fire Support Base (FSB) Buttons, 7-70 to 3-71, and Bien Hoa, 3-71 to 4-71.

Man, that was a whole lot of years ago!!

Glad you enjoyed. Fort Hood is just a couple of hours south me me. I’ve seen the entrance, but have not had the opportunity to be on base.

Someday I hope!

Hey Sarge, don't you think that Congress ought to get us some electronic ignitions instead of these old cranks for these new hyper drive stealth cruisers?

I just tonight saw Patrick Wayne on TV saying that “She Wore A Yellow Ribbon” was one of his dad’s favorite movies!
