~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas Fort Hood, named after Confederate General John Bell Hood, is a U.S. Army post located halfway between Austin and Waco, in Killeen, Texas. John Bell Hood (June 1, 1831 August 30, 1879) was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. Hood had a reputation for bravery and aggressiveness that sometimes bordered on recklessness, and was considered one of the best brigade and division commanders in the Confederate States Army. A 340 square mile installation (217,337 acres), Fort Hood is the only post in the United States capable of stationing and training two Armored Divisions.
The rolling, semiarid terrain is ideal for multifaceted training and testing of military units and individuals. Fort Hood is "The Army's Premier Installation to train and deploy heavy forces."
In addition to the 1st Cavalry Division and 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood is also residence for Headquarters Command III Corps, 3d Signal Brigade, 3d Air Support Operations Group, 13th Support Command (Expeditionary), 13th Finance Group, 21st CAV Brigade (Air Combat), 89th Military Police Brigade, 504th BfSB, the Dental Activity (DENTAC), the Medical Support Activity (MEDDAC), U.S. Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC), and various other units and tenant organizations.

Courage: Live It
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power. 2 Timothy 1:7
Courage is one thing you need if you want to get Gods work done. Thats what I said when I spoke in a church service in Jamaica. I told the people that according to 2 Timothy 1:7, God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power.
A couple of days later, I stood 35 feet above the water on the edge of the Caribbean Sea. Should I jump off the precipice into the waters below? The teenagers who were with me said, Yes! Most of them had already done so. One told me, Mr. Branon, if you dont jump, you cant preach about courage again. I knew that sometimes the courageous thing is not to go along with the crowd. But this time, I jumped.
Courage makes a good theory, but sometimes we need help to practice it. We have many opportunities to step out of our comfort zone to serve God. When we dont have courage, we need to be reminded of Gods promise in 2 Timothy, and we need others encouragement to take the leap.
Perhaps you need someone to tell you: Volunteer for that job at churchthey need you. Have lunch with your co-worker to discuss matters of faith. Or join that small group.
Be courageous for Jesus. Sometimes it takes just that first step of courage to serve our majestic God.
Lord, give me the courage to rise above fear,
Even of danger, because You are near;
I would be faithful to face any foe
While I am walking with You here below. Hess

Soldiers of the 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, conducted a dismounted live-fire exercise Feb. 6, at Fort Hoods Owl Creek Assault Course. The training event focused on react-to-contact drills and buddy-team maneuvers for the 4-42 FA Regt. Soldiers who are scheduled to deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom next month. By Spc. David Hodge
Keeping his eyes peeled for anything suspicious, Spc. Frank Maier, a scout for Trp. A, 1-7 Cav. Regt., 1st BCT, 1st Cav. Div., pulls security in Ath Alba, Iraq, a village north of Baghdad, during a joint cordon and search with Iraqi troops from the 2-9 IAD. This particular cordon and search was just one among hundreds of joint missions in which 1st BCT Soldiers participated with their Iraqi counterparts during OIF Rotation 06-08.
By Capt. Andrea-Bernadette Pratte, STB, 3rd BCT, 1st Inf. Div. PAO Soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, returned from their National Training Center rotation Feb. 7-9. While deployed, their success depended heavily on collection of information, situational awareness, communication and networking to ensure leaders were better able to make accurate decisions to gain critical advantages for their units. Leaders looked to division command and control Soldiers to help sort out the many different elements working together on the battlefield.

Good evening to you Mayor!

WOW! I guess the libs haven't figured out yet that we have a base named for a Conferate general. They'd be screaming otherwise.
(Then again, it might just be a matter of time. A couple of summers ago, I remember someone complaining about one of the Six flags at Six flags. )
Thanks for the info, lauren!
