Courage: Live It
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power. —2 Timothy 1:7

Courage is one thing you need if you want to get God’s work done. That’s what I said when I spoke in a church service in Jamaica. I told the people that according to 2 Timothy 1:7, God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power.

A couple of days later, I stood 35 feet above the water on the edge of the Caribbean Sea. Should I jump off the precipice into the waters below? The teenagers who were with me said, “Yes!” Most of them had already done so. One told me, “Mr. Branon, if you don’t jump, you can’t preach about courage again.” I knew that sometimes the courageous thing is not to go along with the crowd. But this time, I jumped.

Courage makes a good theory, but sometimes we need help to practice it. We have many opportunities to step out of our comfort zone to serve God. When we don’t have courage, we need to be reminded of God’s promise in 2 Timothy, and we need others’ encouragement to take the leap.

Perhaps you need someone to tell you: Volunteer for that job at church—they need you. Have lunch with your co-worker to discuss matters of faith. Or join that small group.

Be courageous for Jesus. Sometimes it takes just that first step of courage to serve our majestic God.

Lord, give me the courage to rise above fear,
Even of danger, because You are near;
I would be faithful to face any foe
While I am walking with You here below.  —Hess

Courage will follow when faith takes the lead.

Soldiers of the 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, conducted a dismounted live-fire exercise Feb. 6, at Fort Hood’s Owl Creek Assault Course. The training event focused on react-to-contact drills and buddy-team maneuvers for the 4-42 FA Regt. Soldiers who are scheduled to deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom next month. By Spc. David Hodge

Keeping his eyes peeled for anything suspicious, Spc. Frank Maier, a scout for Trp. A, 1-7 Cav. Regt., 1st BCT, 1st Cav. Div., pulls security in Ath Alba, Iraq, a village north of Baghdad, during a joint cordon and search with Iraqi troops from the 2-9 IAD. This particular cordon and search was just one among hundreds of joint missions in which 1st BCT Soldiers participated with their Iraqi counterparts during OIF Rotation 06-08.

By Capt. Andrea-Bernadette Pratte, STB, 3rd BCT, 1st Inf. Div. PAO Soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, returned from their National Training Center rotation Feb. 7-9. While deployed, their success depended heavily on collection of information, situational awareness, communication and networking to ensure leaders were better able to make accurate decisions to gain critical advantages for their units. Leaders looked to division command and control Soldiers to help sort out the many different elements working together on the battlefield.

WOW! I guess the libs haven't figured out yet that we have a base named for a Conferate general. They'd be screaming otherwise.

(Then again, it might just be a matter of time. A couple of summers ago, I remember someone complaining about one of the Six flags at Six flags. )

Thanks for the info, lauren!

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are, God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

BLESS THIS HOUSE
 Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon

Around her neck
She wore a yellow ribbon,
She wore it in the springtime
And in the month of May.
And if you asked her
Why the heck she wore it,
She’d say “It’s for my lover
Who is in the U.S. Calvary”.

Refrain:
Far away!
Far away!
She wore it for her lover in the U.S. Calvary.
Around her neck she wore a yellow ribbon.
She wore it for her lover who is in the U.S. Calvary.

Around the block she pushed a baby carriage. . .

Around her thigh she wore a yellow garter. . .

Behind the door her daddy kept his shotgun. . .

And in the church the preacher kept a license. . .

The 1st Cavalry Division, nowadays is Mechanized Infantry and Armour, but during Vietnam, it was Air Mobile.

I proudly served in A Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cav, 1st Cavalry Division, (Airmobile), from April 1st, 1970 to April 1st, 1971.

IIICorps, Tay Ninh, 4-70 to 7-70, Songbe, Fire Support Base (FSB) Buttons, 7-70 to 3-71, and Bien Hoa, 3-71 to 4-71.

Man, that was a whole lot of years ago!!
