HOUSTON (Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush urged disgruntled conservatives on Monday to rally around John McCain, calling their criticism of the Republican presidential front-runner "grossly unfair."
The father of President George W. Bush said he was annoyed by attacks within the conservative wing of the Republican Party against the Arizona senator, the all-but-certain Republican nominee to face Democrats in November election.
Many conservatives distrust McCain because of his moderate views on illegal immigration and campaign finance reform and for having originally voted against President Bush's tax cuts. Persuading them all to vote for McCain in November will be a central challenge.
"His character was forged in the crucible of war. His commitment to America is beyond any doubt," the 41st U.S. president, flanked by his wife Barbara, told a joint news conference with McCain in a Houston airport hanger.

McCain’s gonna go down just like Dole did. Watch and see.
I am for McCain 2008 no need of pay! Just making sure the truth is heard above the B.S. demorat spin!
Norman Hsu’s donations to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign have brought comparisons but no direct connections to the 1990s “Chinagate” scandal.
But before Hsu made headlines as a fugitive fundraiser late last month (he’s now in custody in California for a 1991 grand theft conviction), he served on a board with another key figure in the earlier fundraising scandal. For more than a year, Hsu was a member of the board for the New School University in New York, where he worked with Bernard L. Schwartz. The latter, a major Clinton donor, was chief executive officer of a major defense contractor involved in technology transfers to the People’s Republic of China, according to a congressional report released in 1999.
Hsu was named to the New School’s board of governors in May 2006, New School spokesman Brian Krapf told Cybercast News Service. He was named to the board of trustees in Jhttp://www.hillaryproject.com/index.php?/en/story-details/hsu_linked_to_past_clinton_scandal_donor/uly 2007.
McCain, whom I have numerous problems with both as a candidate and as a senator, might win the election by default.
According to Rush Limbaugh’s show today, there’s a rumor on “the street,” as Rush put it, that should Hillary be the democrat’s nominee, Michael Bloomberg will offer Barry Hussein Obama one BILLION dollars to run as an independent
(as long as he, Obama, takes Bloomberg as his running mate!). Rush said this would destroy the democrat party....Rush also said, “Please, let it be true!”
One could only hope.
“Vote for a war HERO who shed his blood for His Country!”
I won’t vote for him - because he forgets the part in the Constitution about protecting the American people from “domestic” enemies - He is the enemy of the US with his amnesty, big government and his “campaign finance” “REFORM” - he’s never going to be president - he will never “unite” conservatives - how could he unite conservatives when he’s a lib? I’m writing in someone - he’ll NEVER get my vote!
It is said that John McCain is a man of honor and served this nation with honor....
But I see no honor in allowing a pissant 3rd world nation invade us and send their dregs here. This is extremely dishonorable to America
Allowing amnesty for illegal immigrants to exist throughout the entire U.S. forever as well as allowing illegal immigrants the right to vote in all future U.S. elections is even more unfair, ex-President George H. W. Bush!
It’s not reassuring that the McCain people made such a big deal out of this endorsement by one big government republican for another even bigger government type. The visuals of these two elderly gentlemen were not what McCain needs to be projecting. This has to go into the ‘’what were they thinking’’ category.
B.S. I will Vote McCain 2008 to keep the commies out!

Mrs. Clinton To Run For White House
Hillary Biographer, the late Barbara Olson, says Mrs. Clintons roots are Marxist
Barbara Olson, author of Hell to Pay. The Unfolding Story of Hillary Rodham Clinton (Regnery Publishing, Inc. 1999), is a prominent Washington attorney who served as a congressional investigator and as a general counsel in the United States Senate. She was interviewed by Cliff Kincaid, president of Americas Survival, on December 8, 2000. What follows is an edited transcript of that interview.
Q: Do you believe that Hillary Rodham Clinton is a Marxist?
A: I believe she has a political ideology that has its roots in Marxism. In her formative years, Marxism was a very important part of her ideology...But when you look at her ideas on health and education, you see more government and less individual control. You see very little regard for families...
Q: Do you see Hillary as in favor of Socialist-style thinking at the global level?
A: We saw that with her activities as First Lady. She traveled more than any other First Lady. She had a global view. She spoke at the Beijing conference on women. She was very active in organizations and conferences that seem to be concerned about human rights but which are also directed toward a centralized governmental view. That is, one world. I looked at her travels and saw what she was doing. I always assumed Hillary was going to run for president. And I assumed that these international travels and her work with the Beijing womens conference and the U.N. were going to be her way into the White House; that she was going to have a foreign policy platform that not many women have...
Q: So you do believe that she will run for president?
A: I do. She believes her ideology to the core. Shes worked for it behind Bill Clinton for years. I have thought that Hillary was going to run for the White House since 1993 when I started investigating the Clintons. She doesnt compromise. She doesnt come to the center. She believes in a true leftist, Socialist kind of government.
Q: She portrays her causes such as childrens rights and womens rights in such an attractive manner. She has put conservatives on the defensive once again.
A: She has. Thats the central focus of her public relations campaign...But her ideas about health care and education have very little to do with women and children. They are the lever she uses to bring the government into the family.
Q: Shes been pushing treaties such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Isnt she promoting global government?
A: Yes.We all know about her book, It Takes a Village. She says the future is not family but the larger village of teachers, pediatricians and social workers. She talks about raising children as less of a parental task than a social one...You have the destruction of the family unit. Thats very basic when you study Socialism and Marxism.
God BLess Barbara Olsen, a true conservative!
McCain 2008
For serving his country, McCain has my unwaivering thanks. That does not make him qualified to be POTUS, have his finger on the nuclear trigger, or any of the other responsibilities that go with the Office.
If you don't want a liberal in the White House, which it would seem, then might I suggest not voting for one? Hillary and Obama being bad does not make John McCain any more qualified. Please make an attempt to understand that little nugget.
What’s unfair is that the ruling elite of the Republican party has left it’s base behind. We are NOT stupid bigots. We want our national leaders to do their JOBS and protect our land from invaders.
McCain is more qualified both as a Veteran and as a politician. That is the nugget!
Then get work as a conservative first keep the demorats out of the whites house, then surround McCain with conservative Congressman and Senators, in the up coming elections by campaining instead of bashing the Republican candidate!
I agree 100% dennis, we don't even look like men putting up with this crap.
Regards
Bears repeating over and over!!
Hate to tell you this - McCain’s just as communist as Hillary - if you can’t see that then I can’t explain it to you. - I’m a woman and I can figure it out(nothing against woman ( :) I’m one - but we all know that there are only 35% smart woman out there - 50% of men are smart - the rest voted for Obama and Hillary LOL) - I think most intelligent people can figure it out too. Good luck to you and the RNC - most conservatives will either write in or just won’t show up no matter how much people scream that “Hillary/Obama is a Commie”... Most conservatives I talk to don’t give a crap anymore. I even had “A non religious, who cares about the social issues just Don’t TAX me (he supported Rudy)” conservative tell me “There’s no point in voting in November there’s 3 liberals running.” That’s coming from someone I expected to support McCain. As my father would say - “The world is going to hell in a hand basket!” When McInsane gets the nomination, it will be true! I’ll still vote for the good Repubs in my district and senate and help them out but McCain can forget about it - I will definitely be telling everyone that I DON’T support McCain.
Juan McCain and Juan Hernandez appreciate your support!
Did you say the same thing for George McGovern??
