HOUSTON (Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush urged disgruntled conservatives on Monday to rally around John McCain, calling their criticism of the Republican presidential front-runner "grossly unfair."
The father of President George W. Bush said he was annoyed by attacks within the conservative wing of the Republican Party against the Arizona senator, the all-but-certain Republican nominee to face Democrats in November election.
Many conservatives distrust McCain because of his moderate views on illegal immigration and campaign finance reform and for having originally voted against President Bush's tax cuts. Persuading them all to vote for McCain in November will be a central challenge.
"His character was forged in the crucible of war. His commitment to America is beyond any doubt," the 41st U.S. president, flanked by his wife Barbara, told a joint news conference with McCain in a Houston airport hanger.

Read My Lips: No New Liberals!
Read Mine no COMMIES!
One RINO endorsing another.
McCain's attacks on the constitution are unfair.
McCain's attacks on Americans and legal immigrants who don't want the value of U.S. citizenship cheapened with a blanket amnesty are unfair.
This is only a beginning list.
Better than democommies McCain 2008
1. I will never vote for him.
2. I would sooner eat kittens.
3. I am voting for Bob Ross.
4. Etc.
Um, no, it isn't, or he wouldn't be so tight with La Raza.
What’s “grossly unfair” is the slate the GOP has given us.
Being opposed to the enforcement of the law and opposed to the clear intent of the First Amendment is not "moderate."
Most DEMOCRATS opposed the McCain / Kennedy Amnesty. McCain was an absolute radical; well to the left of my many Democrat friends who want the border secured for about a decade first.
Whether or not the Supremes agree, disallowing me from joining a buddy and placing an advertisement against Senator McLiberal is a pure form of Government censorship, prohibited by the First Amendment. I look forward to a less politically beholden Supreme Court to overturn McCain / Feingold on the basis of IT'S CRAP!
Didn’t George eventually adopt Bubba?
Maybe that says a lot about his endorsement of McLame.
On McCain, I'm a broken glass Republican:
I'll crawl over broken glass to get away from the voting booth before voting for him.
Hillary Clinton fundraiser Norman Hsu fugitive for grand theft?
The Wall Street Journal reports Norman Hsu, one of the top fundraisers for Hillary Clinton, may be a fugitive from justice.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Norman Hsu, a top Democratic contributor and a major fundraiser for the presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Clinton, has pleaded no contest to a charge of grand theft in 1991. According to the Journal, Hsu accepted a plea baring to serve three years in jail after for allegedly cheating investors out of $1 million.
California prosecutor claims that Mr. Hsu never appeared for his sentencing and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. He is a fugitive. Do you know where he is? Ronald Smetana, who handled the case for the California state attorney general, said in an interview with the paper. Norman Hsus attorney claims that there are no outstanding warrants for his client.
The WSJ also linked Norman Hsu to a San Francisco family, the Paw family, who live in a modest house, but have contributed $55,000 to Hillary Clinton in the past three years. Winkle Paw, who lists as his employer several companies owned by Mr. Hsu, is the top contributor from the Paw family. You can see a picture of their home on the right. I have been fortunate in my investments and all of my contributions have been in my money, Winkle Paw told the newspaper.
The Hillary Clinton camp said today that there is no reason to return the donations, as there is no evidence that anyone got reimbursed for the donations, and that the Paw family, although living in a small house, had the financial means for these contributions!

Hsu raised big money for Clinton supporters
Candidates she courted benefit
By Scott Helman, Globe Staff | September 26, 2007
Disgraced fund-raiser Norman Hsu did a lot more than just pump $850,000 into Hillary Clintons campaign bank account: He also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local, state, and federal candidates who have endorsed Clinton or whose support she courted.
A major fund-raiser for Democrats since 2003, Hsu became one of Clintons biggest bundlers - gathering scores of individual checks and sending them to her campaign. But since revelations last month that Hsu was a fugitive in a 15-year-old California fraud case, Clinton has said she would return the $850,000 she has taken from him and his associates.

MCCAIN 2008
Bite me
Demorats
Fred Thompson: I’d give him money, volunteer, put up signs, make calls, bumper stickers, e-mails.
Romney: I’d volunteer, signs, bumper stickers, a couple of bucks if he needed it. Probably warm up.
McCain. I might vote for him.
Let’s see how good McCain does without an activist base.
I’ve never heard of “activist Moderates” or “activist Rhinos.”
He’s going to the dance with people who can’t dance.
No new Clinton’s in the Oral Office!
McCain 2008 is no Clinton, Vote for a war HERO who shed his blood for His Country!
