HOUSTON (Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush urged disgruntled conservatives on Monday to rally around John McCain, calling their criticism of the Republican presidential front-runner "grossly unfair."
The father of President George W. Bush said he was annoyed by attacks within the conservative wing of the Republican Party against the Arizona senator, the all-but-certain Republican nominee to face Democrats in November election.
Many conservatives distrust McCain because of his moderate views on illegal immigration and campaign finance reform and for having originally voted against President Bush's tax cuts. Persuading them all to vote for McCain in November will be a central challenge.
"His character was forged in the crucible of war. His commitment to America is beyond any doubt," the 41st U.S. president, flanked by his wife Barbara, told a joint news conference with McCain in a Houston airport hanger.

How will Republicans in Congress react to whatever Hillary/Obama want ?
How will they react to whatever McCain wants, even if it is the same as what Hillary/Obama wanted ?
Hint: The answer to one of these two questions is “Rubberstamp”.
Same to ya!
Promise me McCain will drop dead on Inauguration Day and I’ll vote for him.

The latest view from Arkansas!
Not a nice view, I pray instead that a very smart group of conservatives win thier elections into the Congress and Senate and help John McCain see the light when he strays!
I would advise all here to get to work in the districts and make sure that happens.
Who cares what you think Mr Bush.
Mr. Bush is not quite as conservative as I am.
But it is not insult either. LOL
Out of Style -you have more vision then all the RNC put together - can we get all the delegates in Sept. to vote for you! I’d vote for you over McCain, and I don’t even know you!!!! LOL!!!
THis is a pretty poorly written list, with all kinds of straw-man arguments and criteria.
“The first elected president in U.S. history to be impeached-Dec. 19, 1998.”
Well yes, Johnson was only elected VP...
“The first U.S. president to order an armored assault on a church, resulting in the deaths of 55 members of the congregation along with 25 of their children. (Waco-April 19, 1993)”
This is pretty bad indeed regardless of the fact armor has not been around a century yet.
“The first U.S. presidential candidate to accept financial support from a KGB spy. (Aldrich Ames-$7,000, 1991, 92)”
Who wrote this? There is no telling how many KGB spies have contributed to candidates. Does the author think he has a comprehensive list or something?
“The first president to consult with Congress about combat troop deployment while simultaneously receiving oral sex-according to Monica Lewinsky and Rep. Sonny Callahan. (Starr Report-Sept. 1998)”
Wasn’t really practical before the telephone, but this is actually unprovable anyway, Clinton is the only one to get caught. Would JFK have done it?
“The first U.S. president to launch unprovoked missile attacks on two sovereign nations. (Sudan, Afghanistan-Aug. 20, 1998)”
Very narrow criterion there, since missiles haven’t been available for most of US history. Has any president launched unprovoked attacks on 2 countries in their term before (depending on meaning of ‘provoked’ I suspect many have)? Does it being a missile attack make it different?
Well the list stands, are you agreeing with Clintons actions?
beltway disease is very real.
the insiders protecting the insiders.
1. It is HYSTERICALLY IRONIC that GHWBush “read my lips, no new taxes” endoses McCain THE DAY AFTER McCain promises not to raise taxes.
2. Mr. Footsoldier in the reagan revolution was just endorsed by the VERY PERSON who accused Ronald Reagan of Voodoo ecconomics.
These are not the Republican candidates these are the country club candidates. A rich insider family endorsing another rich family insider.
Selective memory is a disease as well, most of the news about hillary and bill has been available to Hannity and Limbaugh but have not mentioned it, as posted here for over a year, instead those so called conservative beltway hosts, have attacked the Republican candidates instead.
First they attacked Romney and McCain, then it was Huckster, because the party line called for Hunter.
Interesting, to know who is really on the side of the party faithful and who is not.

You want the IRS to conduct an audit on a person because he publishes stuff you disagree with?
Sound pretty Clintonian to me.
