Have you ever played your little game with a PC genius at BestBuy or anywhere else?
Only if I'm walking by and hear them trying to sucker some poor person into a very bad buying decision.
To: Maelstorm
The key difference Ive found is that Mac users really dont know much about Computers. They dont know how they work and they dont care and of course that is fine but you cant expect to have a technical conversation with them which is much like having a political conversation with them because once you get past the gui of pretty pictures they get lost.I don't care how my computer works, I just want it to work. That's why I have 7 macs. They get the job done. I'm in graphics, so macs make sense. I have 3 pcs and hate them.
I promise not to have a technical discussion with you. LOL!

Have you ever played your little game with a PC genius at BestBuy or anywhere else? I wasn't aware that PC makers title their instore support staff "geniuses".

Mee Too! Dual Quad-Core 64 Bit Xeon Harpertown Processors each with it's own 1.6 GHz FSB! And what's wrong with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT - that Graphics card Rocks! Can your computer do 80 GigaFLOPS?
I can put four 1TB Hard Drives and 32GB of FB-DIMM in this thing! (It's got 7 hard drives available to it RIGHT NOW!) You want to try to read the Specs?

The “Geek Squad” at Bestbuy and other groups like that are not who I would go to for computer advice, that much is certain. But, like the title of this article has stated, there isn’t the snobbery found in calling your instore support staff “geniuses” like Apple does.
Those “geniuses” know about as much of the inner workings and configuration of Macs as the “Geek Squad” does about PC’s.

Ever had a stall on your PC?Nope. Never had it stall no matter how many programs I am using at once (IE/ Adobe Photo shop/Illustrator/Office apps/frontpage/etc).
If as you say it is just not showing me the hour glass, that darn hour glass would only be up a split-second. I'm not sure my eye would even be able to detect it).
But if it makes you guys with Macs feel better, I guess I could maybe see if there is something I can do to put an hourglass on this PC or slow it down somehow.
Do you know how to slow down a computer without going out and buying a Mac? I really don't want the beachball.

So, logically, you're saying that there is NO WAY that Bill Clinton would have gotten impeached if a PC was used as a research tool during the Juanita Broaddrick scandal? There were plenty of PCs churning away looking for the smoking gun before the vote was taken, to no avail. If the Mac hadn't found it a few days before the vote on the Articles of Impeachment, Al Gore would probably be president today.

Mac Owners Are SnobsNo we aren't! But why is everyone else so stupid?
To: big'ol_freeper
But considering the amount of money Microsoft and Bill Gates contribute to Planned Parenthood, United Nations Population Control (read that abortion) and other liberal causes, I wouldn't necessarily only paint one product or the other with the liberal label. Pick your liberal poison. LOL! As though windows users ACTUALLY PAY for software.

The success of the iPod never made sense to me. I have used generic flash memory MP3 players for almost 8 1/2 years. I never understood the need for sites such as iTunes or anything else that is site based. I like just placing the files I want in my player through standard file manipulation.

Thx for the dialog, Ghost. I don’t really mean to be dissing Macs myself, only pointing out that they’re not quite the “magical” platform that many Mac users portray.

I tend to find the PC defenders who constantly bash Mac users to be just as annoying, if not even more so, than most Mac fans.

I usually try to stay out of these "wars", because hey never solve anything, and just get people's dander up.
I've been on both sides of the Apple wars. First as an Apple IIe user, then as a PC user, and now as a Mac user.
When my best friend got his first Mac (in 1994) he was a PITA for the first 6 months. Talk about being a snob. But he loved his Mac almost as much as he loved his girl friend. (probably more... he still uses macs, but gave the girl friend he heave ho after 3 years). His step dad had been using a Mac for about 10 years prior. (I think he bought one when they first came in 84.) His step dad is the stereotypical Mac fanatic in every way except political ideology. Stone cold conservative. Makes Rush look like a new dealer. He does printing and graphics and often makes signs for the GOP polticos running in the area. Great guy, but if you have any aversion to "compu snobs" then you best stay away.
I've owned an Atari 1200xl, Laser 128, Apple IIe, three dells of various configurations, a couple of store made machines, and now a HP Media Center and an Apple MacBook. My next purchase will be a Apple iMac 20 or 24 inch machine. Why? Because my parents own a Vista, and comparing my meager MacBook to their "all out Vista" machine, and my little 'book is just more fun to work with.
My best friend is now on his 4th or 5th Mac (he's able to upgrade every 18 months or so now because of his job) and he makes purchasing decisions for his office and he's "converted" most of the staff to at least have MacBooks as a portable computer. Not computer savvy? He trained at UC Davis computer department to get a couple of certifications. He's an IT guy at the finance department for the State of California.
And I love Bill Gates and MSFT. I love his story. A college dropout who became the richest man in the world because of some business agreements. Ruthless, power hungry, obnoxious, as well as creative, tenacious, and intelligent -- great traits to teach the entreprenurial youth of today.
In short -- I admire what Bill Gates and MSFT have accomplished. But I love using Apple products (proud owner of an iPod classic and iPod touch). And both companies have made me money.

Vista was an attempt to emulate the Mac - see where it got us. Really? Now I know I don't ever want a Mac. Would you decide you don't want the Mona Lisa because someone drew a stick figure? Microsoft tried to emulate a Mac and failed miserably. Actually, they've been copying the Mac since Windows 1.0 and failing.

Can you explain to me why there is no rt. click capability on the imac? How does one get past this? One becomes educated and learns that Macs have had "rt. click capability" since about 1991... and now come with a five button mouse.

Welcome to Texas! As a Mac guy for several years now, I just have less hassles. I run a sideline photography business, and switched to Mac because of WinME. I used 2000, and liked it, but at that time it didn't have the Compact Flash reader support I needed. Switched to ME because it SAID it solved those problems, and it was a nightmare. Went to Mac, and haven't had any problems.
I'm not claiming it's magical or anything, but I haven't had to goof with video drivers, lost USB ports, etc.
As to the "can't get inside to upgrade" thing, I'm still using a four year old Mac, and have attached 1.25 Terabytes of storage using firewire. I spent more money on an Airport base station than I would have on a wireless router, but it's over four years old, and I run a four computer network with no problems at all.
BTW, I am VERY suspect of people who say they've had a computer for three or four years and have never rebooted. You reboot after software updates, power outages, etc. It may be true of servers with uninterruptible power supplies that serve a limited purpose, but anybody who has a computer has to reboot occasionally.
