Welcome to Texas! As a Mac guy for several years now, I just have less hassles. I run a sideline photography business, and switched to Mac because of WinME. I used 2000, and liked it, but at that time it didn't have the Compact Flash reader support I needed. Switched to ME because it SAID it solved those problems, and it was a nightmare. Went to Mac, and haven't had any problems.

I'm not claiming it's magical or anything, but I haven't had to goof with video drivers, lost USB ports, etc.

As to the "can't get inside to upgrade" thing, I'm still using a four year old Mac, and have attached 1.25 Terabytes of storage using firewire. I spent more money on an Airport base station than I would have on a wireless router, but it's over four years old, and I run a four computer network with no problems at all.

BTW, I am VERY suspect of people who say they've had a computer for three or four years and have never rebooted. You reboot after software updates, power outages, etc. It may be true of servers with uninterruptible power supplies that serve a limited purpose, but anybody who has a computer has to reboot occasionally.

Bless your heart and thx for the welcome!

WinMe was indeed a HIDEOUS operating system. UGH. Easy to understand a change away from that. :-)
