Bill Clinton Lashes Out at Pro-Life Advocates During Ohio Stop for Hillary (Franciscan Univ)

Steubenville, OH (LifeNews.com) -- Former president Bill Clinton made a campaign stop for Hillary in Steubenville, Ohio on Sunday and found himself greeted by more than 100 pro-life students from nearby Steubenville University. According to eye witnesses accounts, Clinton lost his temper and lashed out at the pro-life students during the speech.

Clinton's heated response came after being questioned on his support of abortion-on-demand.

"I gave you the answer. We disagree with you," Clinton said about the position he and Hillary Clinton hold on abortion.

Clinton relied on the old argument that pr-life advocates want to put women in prison, even though abortion bans have never targeted women because they are a second victim in the abortion process.

"You want to criminalize women and their doctors and we disagree,” he said of the pro-life advocates.

“If you were really pro-life, if you were really pro-life, you would want to put every doctor and every mother as an accessory to murder in prison. And you won't say you want to do that because you know that because you know that you wouldn't have a lick of political support,” he added.

Clinton claimed his police and those that Hillary Clinton supports are doing more to reduce abortions even though both have steadfastly opposed bills to limit abortions, such as a ban on partial-birth abortions not spending taxpayer money on abortions.

“Now, the issue is you can't name me anybody presently in politics that did more to introduce policies that reduce the number of real abortions instead of the hot air putting out to tear people up and make votes by dividing America,” he said.

Billy Valentine, one of the Franciscan University of Steubenville students who helped organize the protest, told LifeNews.com that he was surprised Clinton would go to Steubenville after hundreds of students told John Kerry he was wrong on supporting abortion.

“Perhaps national Democrats will finally realize that they can't take the heat from Steubenville pro-life students," he said.

"I have been amazed by the stupidity of these pro-abortion Democrats who think they can come campaign anywhere near Steubenville, especially after the utter embarrassment John Kerry went through in 2004 when he came here,” he added.

Later, Clinton said Hillary should become the Democratic nominee because she will stand up to pro-life advocates.

“This is not your rally. I heard you. That's another thing you need is a president, somebody who will stick up for individual rights and not be pushed around, and she won't,” he said.

I live about 20 miles south of Steubenville, and I know of this University .... about as conservative as can be.

My take on this was (and is) .. the x42 machine is doing it's best to disrupt any legitimate thought processes and ... (tin foil on firmly) ... start a riot.

The more outrageous x42 is ... I can't come to any other conclusion.

They want another DNC '68 ... (IMO), to re-unify a fractured dhim party.

All x42 does is start trouble ... and there seems to be no effort to stop it (it, being x42, not the trouble)

Abortion is the Clinton’s religion. They worship at it’s alter. What he said comes as no surprise.

So the abortion supporters feel 'pushed around' by pro-lifers. What a perspective! So NOW, NARAL, Emily's List, etc are not trying to "push people around" but "stick up for individual rights." Ugh!

“Now, the issue is...”

That’s how billyblythe always tries to spin the discussion back to his agenda.

“This is not your rally.”

So shut up, sit down and put some ice on it.

(It IS their rally: You came to THEIR town!)

Way to go Steubenville Pro-Lifers.

The callousness and disregard of the liberals regarding life of the unborn has always stupified me - and Obama is a partial birth abortion supporter too.

He’s still the angry fat bastard from the wrong side of the tracks. He’s been “looking in” since he was little, and he’s still “looking in.” He’ll never understand how to get “in” because he’ll never understand grace; and this really ticks him off!!

The doctors, yes. The mothers are not guilty by reason of temporary insanity.

Bill is a month younger than President Bush but doesn’t he look older? Must be from having all that anger and vitriol in him. Meanwhile GWB has been subject to the most vicious unfair attacks and has always managed to retain his cool. I have never seen him get into a shouting match with the opposition. At CPAC he said his presidency was “a joy.” He is one class act, compared to his predecessor.

Let's take a look at this:

Bill says: "If you were really pro-life, you would want to put every doctor and every mother, as an accessory to murder, in prison. And you won't say you wanna do that, because you know that you wouldn't have a lick of political support."

In other words, Bill says: "In my mind a really pro-life person wants to put everyone connected with abortion in jail. Although you have never said that and do not even agree with it, I'm going to pin that on you and attack you for it anyway: attack you for a repellent position you do not even side with, but which I manufactured on the spot and will now ascribe to you."

They call that a "straw man" argument, but in Bill's hands it's more like a voodoo doll.

Oh, and by the way: it's not the prolife kids who "tear people up," Bill. You might think of a different phrase, next time around.

Good for the Steubies! If only every town and city that had a Catholic college in it were as “in your face” with abortion-pushing scoundrels like the Clintons.

Another Clintonism. Slicing the wording ever so thin.

" did more to introduce policies that reduce the number of real abortions "

Which your mind wants to put together to read, " did more to reduce the number of real abortions than..."

Fascinating that he's able to do this off the cuff like that.

OTOH, I wonder what the real numbers were, under him, vs under "pro-life" Reagan.

An interesting argument, B-Chan. Actually, some of the abortive mothers are under coercive pressure to abort (e.g. in danger of being physically hurt and/or kicked out of their house by father, boyfriend, husband) but some are premeditated and cool, and just as responsible for their choices as any other creature with a rational soul.

Still and all, I've been active in the prolife movement since 1978, and I have never run into any prolife person, leader or rank-and-file, who wanted to imprison post-abortion women. The reason was not that women are assumed to be in the same moral category as children, the mentally retarded, and the insane --- not fully responsible for their wrongdoing --- but because on a law-enforcement level, it's practically impossible to get a criminal conviction on an abortionist unless you have the willing testimony of a woman who submitted to an abortion at his hands.

The practical matter is, the physical evidence of the crime is way too easy to conceal. The remains of the murdered children are put down the disposal, no blood on the exam table, payment in cash, et.

So, legitimately, the political aim of the prolife movement is not to punish the guilty (a project that can be safely left up to God, the Just and Merciful) but to shut down the abortion industry. The way you do that, is to maintain the presumption that the woman is the abortionist's second victim (true enough) and to successfully solicit her testimony for the prosecution.

Good for these kids to stand up to the elites and speak their mind. Under a Hillary presidency they will probably be threatened with jail, as will any of us who dare to oppose her majesty.

Back in 1993 Bill and Hillary came to New Haven and I was part of a small group of pro life protesters who picketed. Later Bill gave a LONG, rambling speech at Yale that was positively Obama like! Full of platitudes but with absolutely no substance or any specifics about how to solve the societal problems he was bemoaning.

At one point he talked about the “anti abortion” protesters he saw and said it was our right to state our case. Gee thanks. But he also said we were not doing enough to help unwanted children, poor mothers, etc. I guess his preferred solution is for the babies to be killed in the womb. Of course he didn’t say a word about the many pro life people who adopt, and do other kinds of community work.
