"I'm John Kerry, and I'm reporting for duty."
Who can forget this now-infamous July 29, 2004, Democratic National Convention acceptance speech when the party's nominee publicly set his course for the next few months?
"At the heart of the 2004 presidential campaign was a long-deferred national debate over whether American troops had systematically committed war crimes in Vietnam, as John Kerry and other activists had insisted, and as Hollywood, the media and much of the American public had long assumed," begins Chapter One of To Set the Record Straight: How Swift Boat Veterans, POWs and the New Media Defeated John Kerry.
Settling Scores
At root, co-authors Scott Swett and Tim Ziegler provide readers a remarkable and painstakingly notated historical account of the cultural war that coursed beneath the 2004 presidential election a cultural war that pitted mainstream media against truth, and brought to the forefront of political influence the likes of Internet bloggers, talk-radio hosts and a handful of humble but righteously indignant veterans who simply refused to cave in on their cause. But on the way toward documenting that point, the book offers much more.

Yhank you for your service to our country. I am not a vet and my trips into Qui Nhon and Da Nang back in ‘69 were just to make deliveries while working as a Merchant seaman. My Dad and other family members are Vietnam vets, however, and officers, so I am well aware of Kerry’s violations of his own oath as an officer.
I agree, Kerry's testimony is what hung the babykiller tag around the necks of those of us who served later in the 70's.
I'm not a Vietnam vet and don't know what was up with young Mr. Kerry, but I sure as heck took notice that 100 of his old shipmates and fellow officers publicly called him out about it - I've never seen the likes of it, in any of the services.
Great finishing paragraph. (Of course it quotes the book!)

If that was true, he would hardly have led President Bush throughout early 2004, only to see his poll numbers fall off a cliff in August, after the Swift Vets' TV ads, book and web site were released.
And Hanoi John keeps getting reelected.
T. Boone Pickens has a MILLION DOLLAR BET on the table to Kerry to just prove one CHARGE THAT THE SWIFT BOATERS said is UNTRUE...just ONE!!!
Another good one.
Kerry has some interesting opposition this year on the Republican side. Jeff Beatty is a Delta Force veteran with expertise in counter-terrorism and intelligence. I talked with him for a bit at CPAC, and he showed me a Gallup poll taken late last year that has him well within striking range of Kerry - just 3 or 4 points back.
Beatty is an impressive guy. You can find his Senate campaign website here.
You know, I could really use a million bucks...
Unless you are Kerry and can prove just ONE thing untrue....FORGET IT!!
You're going to split that right?
This integrity thing is such a b***h!

I don't have to be Kerry. T. Boone Pickens' challenge at the American Spectator dinner was made to anyone who cared to accept. And I do have all these files laying around...
“If that was true, he would hardly have led President Bush throughout early 2004, only to see his poll numbers fall off a cliff in August, after the Swift Vets’ TV ads, book and web site were released.”
Kerry’s previous words and actions doomed him to defeat many, many years prior to 2004. The Swifties just opened the cellar door and let the light shine in for the American public to see. And the Democrats hate the truth like cockroaches hate the light.
Have we met?
That's considerably easier to type than it was to actually make happen.
Forgive my intrusion, but, IMHO, that's far too simplistic an approach. In fact, I would argue that's the approach that the SwiftVets took into the May 4, 2004 press conference. "If we just tell what we saw. Swear to it in depositions. Then, lay it out for the American people via their watchdog the press. Everything will be ok."
Well, It didn't work out that way! It's STILL not going to work out that way if the MSM has anything to do with it. Kerry is STILL running for the US Senate and no one seems to have said 'Boo' about it.

TS
Boo.
