I'll take it, but their definition of rebate is incorrect:

People earning at least $3,000 and those who owe little or no taxes would get $300 for singles, $600 for couples.

A rebate is an amount paid by way of reduction, return, or refund on what has already been paid or contributed.

And btw, I've heard many, that are expecting this "rebate", are planning on saving it, not spending it, as am I.

Most taxpayers will receive a check of up to $600 for individuals and $1,200 for couples from the Internal Revenue Service, with an additional $300 per child. People earning at least $3,000 and those who owe little or no taxes would get $300 for singles, $600 for couples. Those making more than $75,000 and couples with income exceeding $150,000 are to get smaller rebates — $50 less per $1,000 they make over those thresholds.

Socialism, don't you love it? Folks making $3000 dollars? They don't pay taxes. So how can you "rebate" what they never paid? And notice where that comes from - those who pay the MOST taxes don't get anything back, or get a sliding scale of reduced rebates.

GW is a Socialist too... While I stand to get a little back, I would rather just a real tax cut.

This will do nothing for the economy, since it is not a tax refund, it is merely a redistribution of wealth from high-earners to low-earners. That is the definition of Socialism.

I would much rather just get a break on my income taxes. If I receive the $600 election-year bribe, I figure that it will pay less than 25% of my property taxes for 2008. Take it out of one pocket, put it into the other, then take it out again to pay a different set of bureaucrats. Looks like lose/lose to me. And, has anybody asked if we have to pay taxes on it next year?
