Interview With An Upset Primary Results Conservative
self | self

Posted on 02/11/2008 3:30:36 AM PST by joesbucks

I thought principled politics was supposed to be all about me. And if it doesn't go my way, I'm allowed to throw a tantrum, turn blue, kick my feet, flail my arms, threaten to support and vote for Hillary or Obama just to make my point. I mean, I didn't get my way.

This is just like not getting my candy at the checkout counter. I didn't get my toy in the toy department.

People took me out of control of my party and I'm mad. If I can't control my party, then I have to play nice and be nice to other people. And getting my way is what I'm all about. Not getting it is no fun.

You're asking me to put on my big boy or big girl pants and I want to sulk in my dirty diaper. Sure it's stinky and messy, but it's my mess.

I took my victory laps and told countless others to get used to it when my part of the movement was in control. Now you want me to get used to it? Think again. It's all about me.

I thumbed my nose. If not actually then at least in inference,I gave everyone else the finger during that victory lap. But you aren't allowed to do that to me.

Now you want me to play nice. Now you want me to share my big tent that only allowed people like me in. Now you want me to share the table and let your voice be equal to mine. Now you want me to allow other voices to be heard. Other ideas to percolate in the party.

Look, I invested a lot of time and effort to become a PPP (Perpetually Peeved Person). Anger and bossiness is at the root of my character.

If you won't play the game as I want it played, then I'm taking your ball and staying home in November. And even if I do show, then I'm not voting the presidential line or voting for the democrat just to get even.

And no, I still don't want that diaper changed.

Wow, calling people immature and childish who don’t want to vote for McCain. That’s a new one. I hadn’t heard that!

So, let me see if I have gleaned the underlying thought behind your sophomoric screed —

The Media narritive is the correct one — that this *is* just a ‘horserace’, and all that counts is whether the nose that passes the finish line first has a “R” or a “D” on it....

And that there is nothing after that — philosophies and policies and governance and (lack of) leadership are immaterial.....

Given that a lot of “R” people believe as you do, we’re probably going to end up electing the government we deserve —

I hope you enjoy it.......

Wow, another person who learned from the McCain school of winning friends and influencing people. You’ll have to tell me how well insulting people makes them come over to your point of view.

Right. I’m sure this is going to convince a lot of people to vote for your guy.

Here's something you can relate to:

Watch McCain show his utter disdain for people from home state when they ask about illegals.

Watch his handler threaten a woman asking about illegals raping children.

Watch McCain stand on stage and say nothing when they tell one of his constituents to "shut up!".

The "moderate" pubbies are waking up to the fact that they can't expect us to go along with their dictates.

They are the ones getting their panties all knotted up about it.

I will vote McCain if I must, but your satire sure doesn’t speak to the thought processes of those who dislike McCain, even those I’ve argued with here, for the most part.

It was easy to forecast the splintering of the GOP when we had the executive office and congress. There will always be a struggle for power, even when we're in power.

The whining temper tantrums are remarkably similar to the liberals signature behavior.

Good post. Thanks.

There are certainly a lot of people who feel as you do. And many others who disagree 100%. And both are groups of mature, reasonable people.

My concern is that a vote is only one of the assets we can contribute to any campaign. Money, time, and enthusiasm are very important as well.

Rather than having a candidate that the conservative base can’t wait to get out and support (through volunteer work, financial contributions, “word of mouth” advocacy, etc.), we appear to have a candidate that many of us can barely stomach the idea of voting for.

Even if every one of the conservatives currently opposing McCain ends up voting for him, he will end up with far less support in these other areas than a more conservative candidate would.

Is this the conservatives’ fault? Or McCain’s?

I believe the grave concerns conservatives have are justified.

“They are the ones getting their panties all knotted up about it.”

They need to calm down. We were told all primary season that McCain was winning with moderate, independent and crossover votes. We’ve been told by pro-McCain Freepers that he is forging a new coalition and doesn’t need us. And yet, every day the hysteria ratchets up a little bit more against those of us who won’t toss our principles in the dirt to jump onboard the McCainiac Express.

Maybe they should go try to sell McCain on all the moderate internet forums. Oh, wait, there aren’t any.

It's always so unimaginably stirring and thrilling, listening to some anonymous, self-appointed Internet myrmidon thunder and bluster with such towering (self-)righteousness on behalf of their gardener, their pool boy and all the local roofers and drywall installers in their greater metro area. "¡Sí, Se Puede!"

I hear what you are saying and you make some good points.I do not like McCain, never have, I do not trust him. I would not be considered a true conservative here because I put pro life values ahead of all others. I do not believe there is anything more important than the pro life etc issues on the supreme court. I also LOVE President Bush and believe he is the greatest President in modern times, better than Reagan, so that excludes me from being a true conservative. I guess I fit more into Christian Republican.

I love Rush and Shaun, have listened for years, but lost faith with Shaun over his support of Rudy. Rush is wrong now about sitting out 4 years. There will be 2-4 appointments on the high court. We know now that Rush and Shaun are really not truly pro life, just as we know that I am not a true conservative because I Love President Bush.

I think we need to challenge McCain to sign a pledge that he will appoint strict constructionists like Alito, Roberts, Scalia and Thomas. He needs to pledge that if Democrat Senate will not comfirm, then he will just keep sending more of the same type over, he must agree/swear to not give in. He must swear that the court will go with 6 judges his whole term if necessary. I can see McCain, saying something like this...”I am not prepared to put the country through a constitutional crisis, I have no choice but to send over a more moderate judge” I can hear him saying this or something like it. So we need to get him to swear an oath that under no circumstances will he appoint any moderate judge to the high court.

If he is willing to sign such a oath, then I will vote for him.

There is the right way, and there is a wrong way, and, often, compromise just leads me where I will not go.

I do not chose a leader to negotiate with the enemy, about how much of my freedom they may take.

They have taken away too much, as it is.
