Those who believe that it is still possible to defeat Senator McCain probably also believe buying a lottery ticket will assuage their worries about retirement.
What you are contending with here is each and every state Republican organization preaching the unity sermon. That sells well. I’m not saying your idea is bad (though a Huckabee win would be great in my book), but I am saying you are going to get a lot of opposition from the party powerful. They think they speak for all of us. They don’t!
If we want to come up with a strategy to prevent McCain from being our nominee, we need to become familiar with the rules. There might be a way to squeeze McCain out even if he accumulates enough votes in the states’ primaries. I think the RNC could take matters into its own hands and reduce the amount of delegates in the states McCain won.

I was going to wait and when Don Manzullo's (US House)folks call and ask if they can put a yard sign in my front yard, I will let them know that if John McCain is the Republican candidate, I won't vote for him and I won't vote for Don Manzullo either.
But that won't be until after the convention, so the time to make that contact is now. If enough conservatives make enough noise, I don't care what the delegate count is: John McCain will get the message one way or another. It worked on the Amnesty bill, and it can work for this too.

It's precisely by splitting the conservative vote that McCain is now frontrunner. He's won the independents, the pro-war crowd, and the Rhinos. Now is the time to throw all support behind either Ron Paul or the Huckster. As I recollect, McCain has outright won only a handful of states. Conservatives need to unite behind one candidate. What am I missing here?
I don't think this would be the way to accomplish what you want. It seems to me that all such protest votes would have to go to one particular candidate or two (in winner-take-all states, Queeg would have to be defeated outright).
I somehow doubt that Queeg with a plurality and the majority of votes scattered among three or five or twenty others would deprive Queeg of the delegates.
At worst the strategy would serve to put pressure on McCain. Even someone as stubborn as he would see the obvious if he were denied a majority in, say, Texas. after his virtual nomination on Super Tuesday. I will vote against him before I will vote for him. IMHO, he has to prove he doesn’t speak with forked tongue. Hard for a man who has behaved so often like a snake.
Now, this is an ABM treaty I think we should sign (Anybody But McCain).

I don’t know if this will necessarily “work”, but anyone voting other than their conscience in this election, is a fool.
I’ll be voting Fred in April.
Voting for anyone but McCain will IMHO dilute the conservative vote. This is what got us in this mess in the first place. We must coalesce around one candidate. Since our guys didn’t see fit to hang around and fight, that leaves the Huckster and Ron Paul. Ron Paul doesn’t have a chance. So that leaves the Huckster. He is the only rallying point left. So be it. Vote for the Huckster. Don’t believe that voting for Fred or Mitt will help. Fred is already supporting McCain. I wonder if that wasn’t the idea from the git go, we can hash that out another day. Don’t let these folks in effect assign your votes.
To those that argue that what we are doing is sour grapes I respectfully disagree. What we are doing is fighting for our beliefs. We were ambushed this cycle but that won’t happen again. The folks that support J. McCain better realize this. McCain cannot hope to win without us. With us he has a chance. So he and his people can stop whining and and come truthfully to our positions on key issues or I think we can write this election off. McCain needs us far more than we need or want him. He better start acting like it.

I’m note voting McCain for anything, but we’ll see what happens till May 27th in Idaho. McCain may be the only person on the ballot by then.
Huckabee is only a distraction at this point. I didn’t want Romney, Huck and definately not McCain.
I DO NOT want Hillary to even get to the General Election so I voted for OBAMA. I can’t believe that everyone is falling for the McCain can beat Hillary theory. She will cheat, lie and steal to win.
Don’t you guys remember the agonizing 8 years we went thru with the Clintons? Don’t you??? Keep her from being nominated any way you can. I know that I will be chastized for this opionion but we have a chance to keep her out!
But then what? If none of the others can win, where do we go from there?
