Primary Voters: Vote against McCain! Vote for deadlock! Vote anyone but McCain!
Feb 9, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Folks, there still may be a slim chance to force a deadlocked convention. I'm no election math wizard, but I believe it's still mathematically possible for McCain to NOT receive the requisite number of delegates to win the nomination. But it would require a great turnout of passionate conservative voters in the remaining primary states to accomplish.

The trick would be for all remaining primary conservative voters to vote for their favorite candidate as if he were still in the race. Fred's name is still on the ballot. So is Hunter's and Romney's. Shoot, vote for Huckabee, Paul or even Giuliani if you wish. Anyone but McCain!

None of the others can possibly win, but it's still possible for McCain to lose. Let it go to the convention and force the GOP to publicly fight it out as if its very life depended on it. Because it does.

What do we have to lose? As it stands now, more and more conservatives are declaring their intentions to sit out the general. If McCain is our candidate, looks like Hillary/Obama will be our next president. Don't let it happen. Vote for any GOPer other than McCain!

I just declared to cast my Texas primary vote for Obama

Hillary would be easier to defeat by the Republican nominee.

Jim, I love you, but you have the political instincts of those Japense scientist in B movies who think the way to save Tokyo is to have BOTH Godzilla and the Smog Monster battle it out over the city.

A Huckabee surge and a deadlocked convention would do nothing but force McCain and Huckabee to team up, making things TWICE as bad as they are now.

Respectfully this is looking more and more like sour grapes. Instead I think it’s time for people to face the fact that the GOP isn’t a conservative party. There are many out there that don’t care for the evangelicals and socials who in turn don’t much like the pro-business types and the limited government types. In short people cannot see that the GOP is made up of many flavors but the diversity of ideas is unwelcome.

Fracture the GOP at your own risk. The conservatives on their own might amount to a bloc in the 30’s percentage in a national election. Formidable yes but not enough to win without reaching out to other groups for some common ground. And for what it’s worth, they didn’t really do much in the republican primaries either. Conservatives who want people to see it there way are hypocrites for not being willing to work towards some commonality with others who don’t want democrats in the WH and Congress.

All or nothing is a recipe for disaster.

My first three choices didn’t make it and I can’t help but think if people hadn’t spent all of their time ripping each and every candidate down we might have been able to produce a true leader instead of a collection of misfits and guys with no real chance of winning a national election.

And I think causes and issues are an effective strategy to start with.

Possible. The other possibility is Huckabee for President. As a compromise by the convention.

I, and everyone in my household here in Texas, will be voting for Mike Huckabee on March 4 and I hope that enough other here will do the same!

We’re not going for a win for Huckabee, just trying to block McCain from getting enough delegates to earn HIS win.

I voted for Thompson. Then he thanked me by throwing his support behind McCain.

Jim, I admire your tenacity and I would encourage folks to give it a try, but even if they do what you say, the dingo candidates would probably throw their delegates to McCain.

Like I said, any possibly ploy is worth a shot at this stage. What else is there? I say run with it and see what gels.

Does anyone have the states and dates list handy? We could take it one state at a time, spreading the word. I have to chuckle though because for some reason this thread got me to thinking of the movie “Independence Day”:’)

HOPE! OMG--- I am so excited to find this thread! OH yeah, I am voting against McCain. And, grassrooting my sentiments hot and heavy, far & wide! Texas primaries are around the corner, and Perry can kiss my toe.

Republicans, understand this: it's conservative principles, stupid. (What in the name of sam hill is happening to this party?)

I just listened to Huckabee’s speech from CPAC. He did give an excellent speech. If I were about to vote in a primary between Huckabee and McCain, I would vote for Huckabee. I do like him better than McCAin by a long shot even though he was not my favorite.

For those who did not get to hear Huckabee’s speech:

I’m sure as hell not voting FOR McCain! We may not be able to stop him, but we don’t have to make it easy to him.

From what I’ve seen, if McCain can get about 30% of the votes in the remaining primaries/caucuses, he will have enough delegates.

However, this IS NOT as clearcut as it appears, not all delegates are absolutely required to vote for their pledged candidate at the nomination. A groundswell of opposition will show at least some of them how unacceptable McCain is to conservatives.

I’m with you Jim.

I want this loser to lose so badly it will send a message the memory-challenged GOP power structure will not forget at least as long as I am around
