Eying the results so far in the U.S. presidential primary race, Mexican President Felipe Calderon said he is hopeful that the next administration in Washington will usher in reforms that would legalize the status of Mexican immigrants.
It seems to me that the most radical and anti-immigrant candidates have been left behind and have been put in their place by their own electorate, Calderon told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday, the day after the Super Tuesday primaries.
My hope is that whoever the next president is, and whoever is in the new Congress, will have a broader and more comprehensive view of the immigration problem.
Calderon said he took heart from the Super Tuesday results, but did not mention specific candidates, the Times reported.
Calderon is about to embark on a 5-day U.S. trip that will end in California, where he is scheduled to meet with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and migrant groups.
Calderon said one goal of his U.S. trip would be to generate support for immigration reform that would permit millions of Mexican to work in the U.S.
He also told the Times that Americans would sooner or later come to understand that the health of the American economy is linked to integration with Mexico and greater freedom in labor markets.
That sound you hear from the south is the stampede of illegals trying to get across, so they can cash in on the amnesty that’s coming, no matter who takes the WH.
Numbers of illegal crossers have been dropping. Expect that trend to reverse.
mclame is certainly mexicos man. Someone here had the best tag line, something like.... “Hello Undocumented Alien”, I’m An Undocumented Border Control Agent”. We should really think about that.....
Not sure what you are talking about regarding illegal immigration. McCain has already said that if given the chance he would STILL sign the AMNESTY bill.
Illegal immigration in the USA is the sad SHAME of Mexico;
An otherwise beautiful and historic country with a hardworking and honorable people...
(Corrupt politicians notwithstanding!)
I urge you to call your sons and daughters home...
Urge them to obey the law!
2001.
Because much of his GNP is cash flow returning from citizens that have left the country.
The next one will simply be Governor of the Northern States of Mexico.
They did NOT oppose Bush - don’t you remember the Senate passed SB2611? A Republican-controlled Senate, at that!
Congresscritters are loath to oppose their president. But they’ll oppose the other party’s president (they did a damned fine job with the Clinton years). Look at how the House was treated when it went 180 degrees from what the RNC and W wanted on amnesty - Tancredo was told not to darken the doorway of the WH. That was a threat to ALL others to toe the line. And W was rather mind-mannered. Do you think McCain will be?
;)
“Good question. There are only two possibilities; 1) they are undesireable and he doesnt want them in his country, or 2) theyre here to work his will. Neither answer is good for America.”
And the answers are not mutually exclusive.
Get a rope!
Oh, I forgot one more thing - the ONLY way we got amnesty to be quieted down was that it was right before an election. They’ll be smarter next time and vote on it right AFTER an election, thinking we’re so stupid we’ll forget.
It'll give McCain, Hillary, B. Hussein, who ever the new president is and congress cover. There wont be 2 weeks of phone calls, faxes and protesting this time.
Then the new president will ask congress for a Fairness Doctrine and they will serve it up.
Folks we are for the moment screwed.
I think this article is going to have me talking to myself too :-)
The only thing that thwarted the last senate sponsored immigration plan was all the house republicans along with some moderate and southern democrats. We may not be so lucky next time. McCain hasn’t changed on this issue except for his promise to secure the border first, which makes little sense if he’s just going to legalize everybody later anyway.
LOL!
Noticed that, did ya?
(At least I’m staying civil and not arguing with myself. Yet!!)
You can’t blame the man for worrying about his cashflow!
And it was right before an election. The libs will be smarter next time when they bring it to the floor. (That includes the lib McCain)
