'It's Not a Baby Doll -- It's Alive'
The Washington Post ^ | Feb 7, 2008 | Peter Whoriskey

CASTALIAN SPRINGS, Tenn., Feb. 6 -- The searchers had already gone over the field once.

It seemed unlikely that anything else would turn up. It was dark and rainy, and amid the awesome wreckage left by the tornado that had just passed here they had already found three dead. Some of the bodies had been flung hundreds of feet from their homes, landing in tangles of branches and across the roadway.

Then they stumbled upon Kyson.

The 11-month-old, dressed in a T-shirt and diaper, was lying as silently as any piece of debris in a field of tall grass about 100 yards from the now-leveled duplex where he once lived. He was face down in the mud, covered in bits of grass like many of those who had been cast about by the dozens of tornadoes that had careened across the South.

"It's not a baby doll -- it's alive," called out David Harmon, 31, an emergency worker from nearby Wilson County. He had first thought the boy was made of plastic.

Kyson, to the surprise of rescuers, had survived being tossed by winds that had not only flattened the brick post office next door but had killed his 23-year-old mother, throwing her several yards in the opposite direction, into some fallen trees.

"The baby was just shivering like this," said Keith Douglas, interim director of emergency medical services for Sumner County, who was on the scene, putting his fists to his chest, pressing his elbows to his sides. "He was cold and scared, and he had this blank look in his eyes."

from article:

“He was found over 300 feet from his home, and that was demolished — I mean wiped clean.”

IIRC, there was a similar find of a live baby who survived a tornado hit a few months ago. That one may have been in Missouri.

The aftermath of tornadoes have all kinds of strange and mysterious finds.

In that massive F5 that hit OKC a few years ago, one house was completely demolished — except for a stand that had a coffee maker on it. The coffee maker carafe was filled with hot coffee.

I remember the video from a few years back where a state trooper found an infant in a field as the sole survivor of his home being wiped out. Brought me to tears watching that man pick the child up and wiping its eyes and making sure it was breathing. The baby was reaching up for him for someone to hold on to.

Just as an off topic, I don't believe angels are female or baby cherubs. I don't know why pictures show angels as soft feminine characters. I can't find them in the Bible.

It's not that big of a deal, but I just don't understand why we insist on changing what is in the Bible. When you see people mourning a loved one, they talk of them becoming angels. Angels are created beings that don't have salvation through the blood of Jesus. There is an advantage to being a saved saint rather than being an angel that longs to understand why Jesus died for us and condemned 1/3 of the angels. When a person dies, they don't become an angel. Angels are able to travel between earth and heaven, saints in heaven cannot. Angels guard us, fight our battles, and fight evil beings in wars we don't even know about. Saints are resting in God's presence.

Mini rant over....now we can get back to praising God for His wonderful mercy and protection.

My sorrow brought about by this story turned to anger after reading the Washington Post readers’ comments; many said that they were just southerners, Bush voters, Christians, so they deserved it, and who cares, other variations on those themes. God help us if/when the libs take power. They are truly brimming with hate.

I think I’ll spare myself the rage by not reading the ignorant idiot’s comments. Unbelievable.

I think that was the F5 Moore Oklahoma tornado video—I have seen it several times, and I end up weeping every time the baby reaches her chubby little arms out to the officer! I believe the mother did survive—but the grandmother died.

I have spoken nearly identical words! I like the way Frank Peretti depicts angels in his first two books!

Good move, especially since it was more than one idiot. I hope it was just the same dirtbag using sockpuppets, but I don’t think so.

You are correct, chuckles. Angels are male, nothing in the Bible supports the belief that angels are female.
Our former pastor emphasized this, especially at Christmas.

I hate to be a stickler, but I just see Christianity “morphing” into things that are just imaginary belief systems. There is even angel worship in some sects. Kinda like praying to dead people.

Angels can take any form they want..I've seen at least one.

And I'm not up to arguing about it.

Well, they may be female (if they can be said to have gender at all). But that picture surely isn’t of Christian angels. Sexy, blonde, buxomous and Dianic? It seems a little like Mohammed’s promise of 72 virgins.
