On the Republican side, the final Zogby poll showed former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney with a growing lead and 40 percent of the vote, followed by Sen. John McCain at 33 percent.
But once the votes started being tabulated Romney was actually substantially behind McCain, who appears on his way to nearly sweeping the state's 170 election delegates.
Current balloting results show McCain with 42.1 percent of the vote and Romney with 33.9 percent.
That, along with other wildly inaccurate pre-election polls, caused GOP strategist and Romney adviser Rob Stutzman to tell The Bee's Amy Chance on Tuesday night, "Kill the pollsters."
On the Democratic side, Zogby didn't fare much better, predicting a rout by Sen. Barack Obama of Sen. Hillary Clinton by 16 points.
There was a rout. But it was Clinton that won by 10 points, 52 percent to 42 percent, not Obama.
John Zogby is blaming sampling error. You think?
I find it interesting and satisfying that Survey USA got California's Dem race exactly race. It has robots poll voters. There's no intrinsic reason why robo-calls should be less accurate than human-call polls, especially given all the parlor guessing games about why people might lie to their interviewers. But other pollsters scorn them, and the media often go along -- without looking at the actual records of robo vs. regular.
Nobody around here trusts Zogby.
Mama mia ! That’s a spicy meatball !
Just gotta stay out of them back alley’s
Zogby had a good run in 1996, and it has been downhill ever since. Why anyone continues to pay for his “services” is beyond me.
Zogby 2004: “Kerry wins by a landslide”
Zogby has no credibility as a pollster.
It does occur to my twisted little mind that maybe Zogby was right. But as we know McCain and Huckabee made deals with each other against Romney, trading delegates.
And there were a fair number of shennanigans at the polls. Who knows how much of this disparity was caused by hillary’s cheating?
Not that I think much of Zogby, but why would he try to help Romney? Hussein Obama, maybe.
McCain is the candidate of choice though...
Too many here post too many ridiculous polls and either let their days be ruined by them, or they are ecstatic over them.
And lets please stop with the post where we must Freep the poll. Online polls are completely worthless.
For this article, I made an exception to my rule of never clicking on a thread that contains the word “Zogby” in the title.
Amazingly, Zogby still claims that poll was right.
Rasmussen Polls have been way off too. Maybe the pollsters should keep quiet and stop trying to influence people.
Zogby proves, once again, that they are not to be believed.
The best approach is to do your own homework. Learn the positions of the various candidates and make up your own mind. Polls be damned.
Maybe Zogby wants the match-up to be Obama vs. Romney, on the theory that Obama would win easily.
I don’t buy him either.
Nothing amazing about it. Just wait till general election...
The pollsters have figured out how to suppress the vote... thats all this proves
Your candidate is ahead by a wide margine, so you stay home and relax...
We need some way to vote over the internet
I trust Zogby like I trust my local weather forcast.
