January 21, 2008 A Conservative Party Organized on a Federalist Basis? For purposes of discussion, if we were to try to establish state level versions of a national conservative party, how would we go about it?
Think both inside and outside the box. I would suggest also giving a fair amount of consideration to the new communication and organizational tools now available to us that were not available even as recently as the Perot uprising.

I’m all for it. We would start with state coordinators. Leaders who understand the structure of their state gov. It all needs to take place basically at the same time in order to create a groundswell movement.

to be guaranteed a ballot spot in Texas you need at least one statewide candidate to get 5% of the vote. It could be Land Commissioner or something. For some reason the Libertarian and Green Parties seem to have been exempted but maybe they got signatures or smething
From what I read, it sounds like the place where the Log Cabin Conservative Republicans can feel at home.
in Texas we would need at least 15 county organizations from the start, the largest counties and spread out from there
I’m not sure whether it would make sense to create (another) party. Do you really think that the GOP is unsalvageable with no chance of a conservative reconquista?
I actually like the general idea... one suggestion I would have, especially as the party is being established, is to allow (and even encorage) candidates seeking an ACP nomination to also be nominated under another line if they can do so. That is, much like New York state has a “Conservative” party that can have the same nominee as the GOP.
Also, the charter for the party with regard to primaries should include the following:
* All primaries are scheduled by the national party, not the state chapters, and such scheduling will be done on a rotating basis, within certain guidelines.
* All primaries are “closed”; no one may vote without having registered with the party at least 90 days prior to the primary. Positive ID is required for all voters.
* All primaries are run by the state chapter, not by the states themselves — while more expensive, it is the only way to ensure the party retains control of the process.
No special rights for any so called minority. Fiscal responsibility. All under the Constitution.
We don’t need this; we already have the Constitution Party, which will likely have my vote this fall. And over the next four years I expect it to grow to be a national political force as its ranks are swelled by Americans disgusted by the depredations of a Hillary/Obama/McCrazy administration and a Democrat Congress.

Its not impossible, look at the Democrat party. In the 1960's, the Democratic Party stood up to the communists. JFK cut taxes, promoted the free market, and was willing to go to war with the Soviet Union over Cuban missiles. Now the Democrat Party are Marxist Socialists. All this since Jimmy Carter.
The liberal socialists knew that going 3rd party would weaken the Democratic Party giving the Republicans the majority, so they reformed the party.
If the liberal socialists can change the Democratic Party, the Conservatives can change the Republican Party.
Split the Republican party voters in half (by 3rd party) we will loose our freedom.
“* All primaries are closed; no one may vote without having registered with the party at least 90 days prior to the primary. Positive ID is required for all voters.”
Yup. Who knows how many phony votes were out there this time. (submit your suggestions to the ACP website)
The GOP leadership and those they are beholding to are not going to step aside quietly. There is too much money and power invested in the status quo.
I don’t know how it could get past critical mass where it would shake the 2-party system.
Maybe if several top radio show hosts got behind it as well as credible candidates to run in several states it could make a difference.
I don’t think there are a lot of volunteers to do that though.
AFTER November.
It’s looking more and more like that, at least as far as conservatives are concerned. The GOP has decided they can get along without them.
Doing it on the net is like shooting fish in a barrel with a shotgun - you could do it, just seems like a waste of some mighty fresh seafood, ‘cause you’ve already got the fish.
A lot of people around here have got to be feeling like the Deanies did in 2000 - flailing around, wondering what happened, as the FreeRepublic poll showed Romney winning big, just as it showed Fred winning big before, or Hunter winning before that.
Good ideas.
Primaries are a PARTY function. The taxpayers should not be saddled with the bill nor should the state be involved in a private matter.
The essence of liberty and limited government. That’s a good start for a party that should hold those ideals dear.
