What is going on?? It appears that a fifth undersea communications cable has been damaged. The latest...an estimated 1.7 million Internet users in the UAE have been affected by the recent undersea cable damage.

A total of five cables being operated by two submarine cable operators have been damaged with a fault in each. These are SeaMeWe-4 (South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-4) near Penang, Malaysia, the FLAG Europe-Asia near Alexandria, FLAG near the Dubai coast, FALCON near Bandar Abbas in Iran and SeaMeWe-4, also near Alexandria.

Repression of information only leads to increased hunger for the truth; cutting cables won’t stop people from finding out in this day of mass communications.

Too bad this theory does not seem to apply to a big chunk of the American public. Unless there is repression of information on Britney Spears.

You don’t need a submarine to cut a cable. Cables are sometimes damaged by ordinary ships anchors. It’s not difficult to imagine a device, designed to cut cables, being dragged by an ordinary ship doing this damage.

“Al-Queada trying to isolate the muslim world from the real truth?......”

How about the US forcing the re-routing of traffic through an area that they can monitor in preparation for a quick re-structuring of the Iranian command hierarchy?

Repair work has begun on the cables and the services are due to be restored in 6-7 days, so if this is for some type of strategic purpose then it’s got to be imminent.

You don’t need a submarine to cut a cable. Cables are sometimes damaged by ordinary ships anchors.

But then again.....

Egypt’s Transport Ministry, in a statement, said that footage recorded by onshore video cameras of the cable locations showed no maritime traffic in the area when the cables were damaged. “The area is also marked on maps as a no-go zone and it is therefore ruled out that the damage to the cables was caused by ships,” the statement said. - http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2008/02/06/stories/2008020651700400.htm

Not quite. It just means that particular router in Iran - router1.iust.ac.ir - is offline. If you look in North American the Flordia router is down too, and in Europe the German one is too. Just means those routers aren’t active.

It’s debunked later in that thread. The guy is just counting some of the same breaks more than once.
