Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) took a swipe Tuesday at GOP senators who have criticized him during the presidential campaign, saying they are not the most respected members of the United States Senate.
McCain, who is the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination heading into the Super Tuesday primaries, was referring to comments made by five-term Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran and former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.).
The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine, Cochran had told The Boston Globe after his endorsement of McCains main rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.
Santorum, another Romney supporter, has also raised McCains temper as a reason not to support him.
The Arizona senator hit back hard at his critics when he was asked about their comments on NBCs Today Show.
And in all due respect to a couple of those people that are criticizing me, theyre not the most respected members of the United States Senate, to be honest with you, McCain said, noting that he has a lot of support among his colleagues.
Cochrans office did not immediately respond to a request for comment
Yeah....there you McCain. Burn those bridges! You know you need to find a way to TRY and appease YOUR PARTY, this is probably...not it.
Use of the phrase, "to be honest with you" is very often a tip-off that the person is not being truthful.
Santorum is a former colleague. He went down in flames in 2006. He’s entitled to criticize McCain but McCain can return in kind. I see no problem with this.
Cochran and McCain have clashed over spending for years. He endorsed Romney as well. I honestly cannot name a single piece of legislation that Cochran has to his credit. I think the title of “undistinguished” fits him well.
Lately it seems I am a Conservative without a Party!
“They said that about me! How DARE they! Don’t they knew who I am??? I’ll teach them for calling me hotheaded and vindictive! Why, I’ll rip their lungs out!!”
Mccain is such a POS .......who are these idiots voting for his shamnesty presidency ?!?!?!?
Unlike, say, McCain-Feingold (throttling the First Amendment) or McCain-Kennedy (shamnesty)?
Vote McCain. Vote McDemocrat!
I agree but his age will also be an issue, but they will not raise it directly, they have after all TEAM MSM on their side.
Wow. Wonder what he’d say if he were President and someone at the U.N. had a criticism of him.....
Hmmm.
I really like the guy personally. I do not, do NOT want to see him become POTUS.
????..whats new?
Blow it out your McCain, John!
Just wait McCain. You’ll get your comeuppance in November with the biggest Dem win in decades. I’ve accepted it and will be laughing all the way through 2012. We’ll see how many collegial Senate hacks like you then as they fight for their political lives.
But they could have simply said, "QED."
I agree, McCain needs to retire and care for himself. O’Reilly has said McCain can run rings around him, but then O’Reilly seems to “subtly” indicate he’s for McCain, though he would NEVER endorse anyone.
McCain hates conservative, Republican Senators. He will work hard with Democrats to beat his Republican enemies.
And rightly so. But the powers-that-be will use that only far enough for McCain to lose the Presidential race, not enough to make him lose a Senate seat or a 'rat-admin cabinet post.
