Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney confessed on Monday to casting a vote for a Democrat on a few occasions - but only when there was no Republican on the ballot.
The man who has built his campaign in recent days on painting front-runner Sen. John McCain as a liberal said that hed always voted Republican if there was a Republican on the ballot.
But he noted that in his home state of Massachusetts, voters can decide between voting in the Democratic or Republican primary, and sometimes he had voted tactically.

I was at a Dukakis for president rally -— for the easy chicks.
(Romney also has admitted it, played it off as support of a regional candidate.)
THIS is the best you can do Hucka-tool supporter?
I’ve done the same. At least he didn’t lie about it. McCain/Huckabee would have. I hope people who support this collusion to destroy this elecition are happy with those two.
Yes, probably. I would vote for Zell Miller in a heartbeat if it was between him and a RINO. But there is always the option of leaving it blank.
Mischievous voting or a matter of voting for the best democrat of the lot since the other side offers no choice?
LOL @ mischevious voting. How does one vote mischeviously?
I would vote for Zell Miller in a heartbeat too. :-)
I just might do this myself ... because there are clearly no Republicans on the ballot.
Okay, what I say here will stay only here at Free Republic, when Jimmy Carter ran for President, I voted for him, because I lived in Georgia at the time. Please do not tell anyone my shame.
Why doesn’t the media go report on how McCain opposed the Bush tax cuts, opposed driling in Anwar, was for amnesty despite calls from republicans who were opposed to it.
Is it true that McCain was in favour of funding embryonic stem cell research?
Romney campaigned with the “no return to Reagan years” slogan.
Was that tactical also?
Sheesh.
This guy is too slick by half.
I dont hold that against him sometimes if you know the GOP nominee is doomed you help to make sure that the most conservative democrat is nominated. Growing up in NYS we did it all the time..
It’s about the voting record of Mitt Romney - the supposed expert on who a conservative is and who is not.
So? Conservatives will be doing the same thing this November.
I vote for the better candidate period. I voted for the democrat for township supervisor because he was the conservative and the republican was a clear liberal.
The democrat donated land for a shooting range and the republican tried to stop it because the sound of gunfire frightens his friends from Ann Arbor.
Ha! I like it.
As many as 14? I thought it might be 5 or 6.
i voted for pat paulsen *L*
