Bob Dole the last person that Romney wants support from ?

Must be this new Conservatism where you are indignant to War Heroes...

where you stand for something one day see a poll and change your mind the next..

Where you listen to the talking heads and then adopt their same indignat rhetoric to icons of the Republican party...

Where you forget everything positive that Republicans have done in the Conservative movement and choose to harp on single divisive issues like Illegal Immigration and call anyone against your particular views a non-pureist

Show me exactly what Conservative Battle that Romney support, on piece of Legislation that he sponsored or one area that he was a strong Conservative on in his record...

Apparently Pandering is what our Conservative talking heads want... hmmm

thats no better than what you get with BILLARY>..

A short time later, Romney also referred to Dole as “an American hero.” He added that he would love to have the former senator’s support for his own bid.

I don't genuflect before politial icons, but Rinos never hesitated to tug their forelock at Bob Dole.

You're shrillness is showing.

Exactly.

Romney's record in government is a record of liberal policies, liberal statements, and liberal signatures.

only Democrats play the BS vet immunity totem.

IF Dole did not want to play he should not have entered the game.

While Romney is being silly, I advise you to get a better handle on the meaning and contextualization of the word “indignant” before you post further.

I am greatly saddened by the viciousness of this (and many other threads I read on FR).

I just want to remind everyone that the Internet is the "true elephant" that never forgets.

Once you post a vitriolic message, it is available to the rest of the world, essentially, forever.

We are going to need to line up Republican support against the Dim nominee, and it is going to be very difficult after the vitriol I see posted here.

You can welcome Billary back into the White House at your (and my) peril.

Don't forget that McCain was the only Republican member of the Keating Five Scandle. Not only does he vote with Dems most of the time, but he steals accepts unlawful money with them too.

Good job of taking his words out of context.

Fox News’ Steve Doocy: “Governor, what do you make of the letter that Bob Dole wrote to Rush Limbaugh that says, ‘Lay off of John McCain he is conservative enough?’ Do you buy that from Bob?”

Governor Romney: “Well, it’s probably the last person I would have wanted to have write a letter for me. I think there are a lot of folks who tend to think that maybe John McCain’s race is a bit like Bob Dole’s race. That it’s the guy who’s the next in line. He’s the inevitable choice and we’ll give it to him and then it won’t work.

“I think that the right course for a winning campaign against someone like Barack Obama is going to have to be somebody who can speak with energy and passion about the future of America, not another Senator who can say, ‘Well here is what I did on bill H-1234. Here is what I did on my committee assignment.’ The American people are so tired of listening to Senators talk about their bills and their committees. They want to know how somebody has accomplished something for the people of their state or their city, somebody who has built a business, who ran the Olympics. They want somebody who has been in the real economy to fix our national economy.”

I agree Dole's campaign was a joke. Notice Romney or I didn't say anything about his military service.

Oh puhleeze. Trying to turn this into an insult to people who served in the military is something out of the liberals "Handbook for Whiners."

Dole was a big loser and I just saw his loser buddy Jack Kemp on Fox attacking Romney. McCain will be another loser ala Bob Dole.

For whatever anyone says about Dole, I'd want him and his experience in my corner if I was running for president.

Romney's a complete schmuck if he said this.

I thought McCain was pretty dismissive of Senator Rick Santorum as somebody who “wasn’t reelected”. McCain can sure dish it out, but no one else is allowed to dis anyone if McCain doesn’t like it.

This was a bad move on Romney's part.

It shows that he doesn't think politically or prudently.

That can be a good thing for a private person, but not for someone who aspires to higher office.

Still, McCain has made his share of remarks like this over the years.

Arguably we're still safer with Romney.

Regardless of Romney’s comment...for those of us whose battle issue is the Second Amendment...there were few worse than Bob Dole who sold us out in the past with “compromise”(like McCain). We aren’t talking “purism” here either.Dole’s SOP was “how much can I give away so that I look good”. Dole knows anything he writes to a public figure in a campaign can be published. It can be argued that “moderates” like the Doles have, on balance, done more harm than good to the party. Another good reason why moderate McCain needs to be defeated in November.

Ah, this all fits Romney’s “Feb 5 strategy” as reported by The Atlantic.com. (see http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/01/mitt_romneys_feb_5_strategy.php) and captured on this FReeper thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1963053/posts

The strategy? Instead of going after the over 60 vote, they’ll diss them. How? By dissing the age of folks like 71 yo McCain and 84 yo Dole.

According to the Atlantic, Mitt Romney's advisers now have their final blitz mapped out.. Play up, subtly, the generational differences between the two candidates… Play up, subtly, the generational differences between the two candidates

In response, one FReeper wrote that even tho only 11 years separate them, Romney looks like he 50 and McCain looks like he is 80. That is Romney looks like the bright future and McCain looks like the distant past. [Torchthemummy]

My response then? Well, then, you've just "confessed" that when the Romney camp says they need to play up the "generational" difference, they don't mean that at all! They're just using "generational" as a euphemism for skin tone, darker & more hair, cheek structure, & general attractiveness. Boy, is that desperation or what? The campaign that constantly preaches, "Thou shalt not judge a candidate on the basis of their internal other-dimensionly commitments instead should primarily be judged upon such lofty qualities as external things like skin tone, darker/longer hair, cheek structure, & general attractiveness." [Signed: The Romney Campaign]

Military service apparently means very little to Mitt Romney. Several months ago he defended his sons not going into the service by suggesting they felt it was more patriotic to help elect Mitt Romney president.

We had a true-blue conservative military veteran running. We had our chance.
