McCain, Huckabee Worst Picks for Evangelicals
Christian News Wire ^ | 4 Feb 2008 | The Reverend Rob Schenck

Posted on 02/04/2008 12:38:24 PM PST by elizabetty

The Reverend Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK), in his capacity as a private citizen, today released this statement regarding tomorrow's primary votes:

"I have spent the last 33 years as an active evangelical Christian. I am an ordained evangelical minister. I graduated from an evangelical Bible college and an evangelical seminary. I serve on the board of America's oldest association of evangelical church leaders, and I head one of the most active evangelical ministries in Washington, DC.

"I have thought long and hard about the upcoming elections. I have prayed earnestly about them, and I have met many of the candidates and their top campaign people and I have studied their platforms and policy proposals.

"After careful and prayerful consideration, I have concluded that an evangelical vote for Mike Huckabee is a vote for John McCain, and a vote for John McCain will be a disaster for this country

~snip~ "Evangelicals must choose wisely from among candidates other than Mike Huckabee and John McCain as they vote tomorrow, February 5."

It's clear to me and many others that Mike Huckabee is not broadening his appeal enough to win the primary. Therefore, his only contribution is to siphon off votes, giving McCain a clear path to victory.

So, it's not that Huckabee is wrong on any particular issues. It's just that a vote for the Huckster is a vote for McCain, because your man Huckster can't win.

Way to stand up for what you believe in, "Reverend"!

I’d say this guy has got some kind of axe to grind. A vote for candidate A is a vote for Candidate A, not an implicit vote for candidate B or C. What he says is hogwash.

Rev. Rob Schenck is president of RIGHT WING WATCH and has published on People for the American Way before.

Actually, because their second choice is overwhelmingly for McCain, a vote for Huckabee is one that is not going to McCain.

Of the six candidates still in the race, 3 have a history of being pro-life (Huckabee, McCain, and Paul), 2 are vehemently pro-abortion (H. Clinton and Obama), and one was pro-abortion but now claims to be pro-life (Romney). So the Reverend excludes two of the three pro-life candidates...is he implicitly endorsing Ron Paul?

Agreed, that's certainly the case with me. And this Rev who wrote the article is a bonified liberal.

Plus, "Reverend" it appears you're a spineless wimp who won't come right and tell us who you DO support.

That's some kinda faith ya got there, Rev.

This is silly stuff, pure nonsense. Mike Huckabee is an Evangelical Christian --- pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family social conservative. And as Rev Richard Land points out, John McCain is pro-life.

Let me stipulate, I don't support McCain or Huckabee. But the premise of the article calls for Evangelicals to get behind someone, just not Huckabee or McCain. I guess Rev Rob Schenck is silently calling for Evangelicals to get behind Willard the Myth. (Maybe Ron Paul or Alan Keyes.)

>>>>>"Evangelicals must choose wisely from among candidates other than Mike Huckabee and John McCain as they vote tomorrow, February 5."

Romney's record shows long support for liberal issues and liberal causes. Romney's record is no better than McCain`s or Huckabee's.

“Romney’s record shows long support for liberal issues and liberal causes. Romney’s record is no better than McCain`s or Huckabee’s.”

Let’s pretend what you say is true. Why vote for the troll McCain or another slick talking Arkansas politician when you have at least some presence and sophistication with Romney?

This man’s words won’t make any difference to the zealots but perhaps a few reasonable people will consider the situation and vote in favor of preserving our Republic by voting for Mitt Romney.

Who knows? He doesn't tell us who he likes, maybe because he lacks any real faith.

I would love to run against YOU! All I have to do is put up a dummy candidate to mirror YOUR agenda and siphon off half of your votes. LOL
