Freeper needs enlightenment- What's Wrong with Ron Paul? (Vanity)

Posted on 02/04/2008 10:43:12 AM PST by mikeus_maximus

I am a long-time poster here, but I have to admit that I never gave Ron Paul serious consideration because (1)many of his most vocal supporters are nuts and (2) he can't hold his own in a debate. But looking at the substance of the man, I finally realized his conservatism is almost exactly the same as mine: He is a small government, pro-life, pro-marriage, constitutionalist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Ron_Paul#Stem-cell_research_regulation

If not for his unpopular stance on the futility trying to police the globe, I think he would have had much more support among the GOP's conservative base.

There is just no way, now how that I can vote John MittCainey. I know it is likely that a socialist from one of the two parties is going to move into the WH this time, no matter how conservatives vote. I won't vote for any of them. So I have to ask, in all sincerity, what's wrong with Ron Paul's positions?

His biggest problem his complete contempt for the United States of America.

The minute he said the 9/11 happened BECAUSE of the policies of the United States was the minute he capped his support to the 5% of the population who are Insane, Star Trek Convention Attendees and White Supremacists.

On the whole, very little. I love his domestic platform and I’d think he’d be a great governor. He’s worst then the socialists on foreign policy though, he’s (in part) blames the US for 9/11 and wants to go back to an isolationist, fortress America, type world.

Hey now... I’ve attended Star Trek conventions and I know that the insane white supremacists all prefer Star Wars to Star Trek because Star Trek is too communist.

He’s not approved by the Council, as are all the others.

They have a Community to build and nothing is going to get in the way. So he has to go the way of Ross Perot.

Paul? He’s inconsistent and bewildering. His supporters claim he is ‘conservative’, but he co sponsors some strange leftist sponsored legislation. On top of that he was a total failure as a legislator, never getting any of his bills passed. Also, he is the only candidate with ZERO endorsements from his fellow congressmen. http://thehill.com/endorsements-2008.html

Some of Paul sponsored and co sponsored liberal legislation.

In 1987, he wrote that the United States should not have a national immigration policy and “should welcome everyone who wants to come here and work.”

H.CON.RES.160 : Recognizing the historical significance of Juneteenth Independence Day, and expressing the sense of Congress that history should be regarded as a means for understanding the past and solving the challenges of the future. Sponsor: Rep Davis, Danny K. [IL-7] (introduced 5/19/2005) Cosponsors (69)

H.RES.233 : Recognizing the important relationship between the United States and Mexico. Cosponsors (5) Latest Major Action: 9/5/2001

H.R.189 : To repeal the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. Sponsor: Rep Stump, Bob [AZ-3] (introduced 1/3/2001) Cosponsors (22)

H.RES.208 : Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives regarding the systematic human rights violations in Cuba committed by the Castro regime and calling for the immediate removal of Cuba from the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. Sponsor: Rep Foley, Mark [FL-16] (introduced 4/30/2003) Cosponsors (24)(He wouldn’t vote for the same against Iran!)

H.RES.315 : Congratulating Rafael Palmeiro of the Texas Rangers for hitting 500 major league home runs and thanking him for being a role model for the Cuban American community, as well as for all Americans. Sponsor: Rep Sessions, Pete [TX-32] (introduced 7/9/2003) Cosponsors (14)

H.R.217 : To ensure that a Federal employee who takes leave without pay in order to perform service as a member of the uniformed services or member of the National Guard shall continue to receive pay in an amount which, when taken together with the pay and allowances such individual is receiving for such service, will be no less than the basic pay such individual would then be receiving if no interruption in employment had occurred. Sponsor: Rep Wexler, Robert [FL-19] (introduced 1/7/2003) Cosponsors (97) (Only federal employees deserve this bonus????)

H.R.731 : To render all enrolled members of the Tohono O’odham Nation citizens of the United States as of the date of their enrollment and to recognize the valid membership credential of the Tohono O’odham Nation as the legal equivalent of a certificate of citizenship or a State-issued birth certificate for all Federal purposes. Most folks have pretty much summed it up. He’s great on Monetary Policy, Trade, Life, Taxes, Family, Liberty, States Rights, etc etc.

But he’s way too far to the left when it comes to the seriousness of the Threat of Islamo Fascism.

So... choose yer poison...

Death from without or death from within...

Someone else had the same question;

Ron who?

So, Barack has a posse and Hillary is someone’s homegirl, but who is this Ron Paul guy? I see the signs of Revolution (read the bolded part backwards) and a person or two waving his signs on freeway overpasses, but have yet seen his face on CNN. What gives?

The answers were;

Marion N. wrote on Jan 29, 2008 3:20 PM:The media seems determined to ignore Dr. Paul. This “oversight” makes him even more appealing to those Americans who are tired of the status quo.

Alice wrote on Jan 29, 2008 4:56 PM:The reason you don’t know who Ron Paul is because you are not being told . The American people are being brain washed daily (as usual) by mass media. The candidates they focusing on are the ones you need to elect. They will ensure the status quo is maintained. This will enable the continued rape of the American people. The best part is they will never know what happened...

Concerned-1 wrote on Jan 29, 2008 5:00 PM:I voted for him because I like where he stood on most of the issues. He is not about status quo, nor good old boy politics. In fact, he would be too radical for mainstream politicos who want to hold on to their power. It’s a shame he doesn’t get more press because he really is a breath of fresh air. But then who needs to breath?

Andrew wrote on Jan 29, 2008 5:05 PM:He threatens the very core of current big government. He believes in the constitution and personal liberty. He has actual realistic plans to end the war in Iraq, eliminate the trade deficit, drastically reduce taxes, and restore a strong economy. All other candidates speak the language of politics with its half truths and false promises. Ron Paul backs his ideals with proof. His votes prove his integrity and belief in the constitution and liberty. His voting record as a US Congressman is impeccable. ...

Hazel wrote on Jan 29, 2008 5:56 PM:You, like many have not been allowed to know who Ron Paul is. He was excluded from one of the first national debates by Fox News. Why? Evidently they didn’t think he was a viable candidate way back then. Therefore they decided for us quite early in the game, which candidates with all their different ideas I would be allowed to mull over. It has been continued to this day. Try to find what Ron Pauls vote tally is right now in the FL primary. Hard to find? Its just about unbelieveable how unfair and biased the coverage of him has been. I for one am aghast ! No wonder I am for him...besides his having the best ideas and record. Whats so wrong about trying to regain what is written in our constitution? Educate yourself, you will have to do some reading, he has an excellent web site. Look up Ron Paul for President. Thank you.

I NEED TO KNOW wrote on Jan 29, 2008 6:52 PM:Just how exactly do all the Ron Paul supporters plan on getting him past the electoral college? I’m not saying he sounds like a horrible candidate or anything but you don’t actually think your vote counts in a presidential election ... do you?!

john wrote on Jan 29, 2008 7:34 PM:The Electoral College is selected by delegates from each States’ Convention, whose delegates come from each state’s congressional district or county, whose delegates come from each state’s precincts, who are elected by that precincts registered voters. A very well kept secret the elitist don’t want the common hear to know about. So actually a very minute percentage of the voting public have a huge impact. Ron Paul delegates could sway the election if they only knew how easy it is to be elected a delegate

It’s both wrote on Jan 30, 2008 3:21 AM:But mostly you. You live for the sound byte, the mainstream. I will probably vote for McCain because I believe he’s honest. But I also voted for Perot in ‘92(?) and Nader in ‘96 and 2000. So all bets are off. I switched officially to Republican for this Primary but I will always be independent. Poll that!

Paula wrote on Jan 30, 2008 10:48 AM:The entire censorship of Ron Paul by our main stream media (MSM) is appalling. The Nevada Supreme Court ruled that privately owned media corporations could choose to show who they desired and what they wanted you to know, despite the fact that they are using what was always considered public airways . The decision has far reaching ramifications for future news which has now been legally transformed into PROPAGANDA. Americans should file a class action lawsuit through the ACLU to get this atrocity stopped!

Liberal Media Bias wrote on Jan 31, 2008 8:17 AM:I watched the debates and was ashamed that the moderators were so obviously NOT asking Dr. Paul for his positions on major issues. My curiosity was piqued, so I looked up his website just to find out more about him. What a pleasant surprise to find old Republican party positions and solutions there. Though it may be a wasted vote, he’s the best choice on the Republican ticket to save America from itself.

Pencilpusher wrote on Jan 31, 2008 9:29 AM:I really like his views. I’m sure he hasn’t had the ink because he threatens the good ol boy network. I’ll vote for him, because otherwise I wouldn’t have anyone to vote for!

No Coverage wrote on Jan 31, 2008 1:53 PM:Ron Paul doesn’t get any coverage because he is a cartoon character clown!! It scares me to think there are actually people out there that listen to this knucklehead.

He’s an anarchist! wrote on Jan 31, 2008 2:38 PM:Ron Paul is an anarchist in republican clothing. He used to be a libertarian and favors abolishing all government agencies and allowing individuals to govern themselves. He must be a big hit with militia members who wish to overthrow the government and ship all people of color out of the USA. He’s not the great guy that people make him out to be. He’s a dangerous crazy person!

Maybe because he’s a lunatic. wrote on Jan 31, 2008 3:43 PM:Ron Paul can be summed up like this: big government bad. Big business good. Those two sentences say it all. He wants to do away with anything that impedes on the “freedom” of rich people to get even richer at the expense of everyone else (which includes among other things everything from all taxes, education, and protection services). Of course, people are apparently too stupid to realize that the more money that flows in one direction (because a free market without restriction ALWAYS leads to a monopoly), the less money - and LESS FREEDOM - there is for everyone else. The douche praises the Gilded Age as his favorite period of American history. Sorry, but if I have children I don’t want to see them stuck as wage slaves at the age of 7 just so I can put a half loaf of bread on the table. I keep reading comments from people whining about developers and growth, but what do you think’s gonna happen with Ron Paul’s policies? No restrictions anywhere? Say hello to a gravel pit in the middle of a residential neighborhood or a factory next door to a coffee shop. Anything goes if you’re Ron Paul and who the heck cares if anyone’s suffering?

no kidding wrote on Feb 1, 2008 10:18 AM:Ron Paul has no chance.
The electoral college is not the evil thing one poster keeps making it out to be. Each party has their group of state electors who promise to vote for the winning candidate of their party if he/she wins that state. Ron Paul would be the one the Cal. republican electors would vote for if he wins the nomination from the Republicans and wins the state in the November election. There has only been (I believe) one case of a faithless elector (a delegate who voted for someone other than the person who won that states primary).
Ron Paul says many things that I agree with but his past has serious questions about racial issues. If you think the Republican power structure would let him win you are dreaming, his only chance is as a independent but his rEVOlution is going to need a lot more support than a bunch of white internet geeks who think he is the savior of our country.

To No Kidding wrote on Feb 1, 2008 12:25 PM:You actually just stated exactly why the electoral college is, in fact, evil. First problem is that they’re partisan. Second problem is that the electors may promise to vote for the winning candidate, but they are under no obligation to ultimately do so. Third problem is that it all takes power of the decision out of the hands of all citizens and puts it in the hands of a few unnamed individuals to wield as they please. Only when the power belongs to the people can there ever be true change. Until then, we’ll just keep getting more of the status quo ... no matter who’s name is on the door.

one name to save us! wrote on Feb 1, 2008 3:17 PM:Ron Paul is our last hope...undoubtedly,
while other candidates are talking about how the other person/candidate is bad,
Dr. Paul is saying and telling us what needs to be said...even if it is hard to hear or swallow! It’s the truth.....
and the others won’t discuss it...

Because we’re all crazy wrote on Feb 2, 2008 9:10 PM:Ron Paul. Who is he? He’s a guy that is not only ginored in the media, but also touted, blamed, named, and destroyed. If their not ignoring him, their scaring the bajesus out of their viewers with all kinds of crazy lies. I beg of you, if you read all of these comments and you heard the idots putting him down, and claiming to udnerstand his plans as “No government” “big business only” than please, jsut read his plans, read his writings, check his history.

He’s not a white supremecists, not a racist, does not want the entire government gone, or any of the other things that the brainwashed masses are told to believe.

It is SO easy jsut to researcht he man for yourself and not take someone else word for it.

I do agree with some of the psoters, however, he probably won’t win. Americans just don;t care anymore. Either they can;t read, or refuse to, or jsut think the tv is correct. They call names, blame the man for plans that were never his, don;t check it out, and go on in their TV induced world.

RGP wrote on Feb 3, 2008 6:56 AM:Is it radical to want to limit the power of the federal government? It seems that those who believe in the status quo support a federal government with unlimited power. The power structure in this country should change the Constitution, not simply ignore when its inconvenient. Dr. Paul isn’t advocating changes at the local level - he only wants to limit the size and scope of the federal government while taking care of those that are currently dependent on it. What is wrong with that?

JP wrote on Feb 3, 2008 8:22 AM:True freedom and liberty scares people therefore Ron Paul scares people.

David wrote on Feb 4, 2008 9:01 AM:If more people knew about Ron Paul, there would be NO WAY that they would vote for or contribute to the pathetic selection offered as the “mainstream” candidates! What is the difference between paying a hooker for sex and spending the same amount (or more) on a ‘date’ whom you then take home?

Should we arrest daters who like sex?

No, I have never used a prostitute. Yes, I have had a lot of dates.
