In California, Republican Primary Voters are evenly divided between John McCain and Mitt Romney. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds McCain attracting 38% of the vote and Romney earning an identical 38%. Mike Huckabee is a distant third at 10%, Ron Paul picks up 6%, and 6% say they’ll vote for some other candidate.
Earlier in the week, McCain had a small advantage over Romney. Since then, Giuliani dropped out of the race and endorsed McCain. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also endorsed the GOP frontrunner. While those events may have helped McCain, a conservative backlash for anybody-but-McCain appears to have helped Romney.
Romney leads 42% to 37% among conservative voters while McCain leads by eleven points among political moderates. McCain has a slight lead among men while Romney leads among women.
Eight percent (8%) of Likely Voters say there’s a good chance they could change their mind before voting while another 20% say they might change their mind.
Thirty-two percent (32%) of Likely Republican Primary Voters name the economy as the top voting issue for Election 2008. In California, an identical percentage (32%) now say that immigration is the highest priority. McCain leads by sixteen points among those who see the economy as the top issue while Romney leads by twenty-five among voters focused on immigration.

Romney is gaining some serious ground. This is good news since CA gives delegates per district not percent. Even with a tie like this Romney may end up with the majority of delegates.
Sen. Coleman endorses McCain’s presidential bid
Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman has endorsed John McCain for president.
The announcement came from McCain’s campaign Sunday, two days before caucuses are held in Minnesota and more than 20 other states.
Coleman had supported former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani before Giuliani dropped out of the race.
In a news release, Coleman calls McCain “an effective leader who is the best person to lead the fight against radical Islamic extremism.”
Coleman joins Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty in endorsing McCain, who holds a strong lead in Minnesota over his rivals.
A Minnesota Public Radio and Humphrey Institute poll released this week showed 41 percent of Republicans support McCain, trailed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 22 percent.

Aren’t the delegates “split” in California...and how exactly is that determined?
Romney is ahead, I believe, in Orange Co. However, I doubt he’s going to win L.A. County where most of the illegals in the state reside.

Is it any wonder McCain has few endorsements from his Congressional piers than Romney has(over 40). Huck has only 5, Paul ZERO.

It looks like Gov. Pawlenty, who’s been talking tough against illegal immigration in Minnesota, endorsed McNasty...I thought he would for sure endorse an anti-Invasion candidate like Thompson or Romney...

If Romney wants to prove that he can beat McCain in a two man race. He needs to prove it in CA.

My CA vote (absentee) was cast for Mitt 2 weeks ago.
I expect dead people, illegals and democrats to vote overwhelmingly for McCain so amnesty bill is not in any danger.
Seriously, maybe there is still hope for this country and amnesty can be defeated on Tuesday. Then it would be up to Ohio and Texas to derail McAmnesty and I’m hopeful they will do it.
