Steven Calabresi, Professor of Law at Northwestern University (http://www.law.northwestern.edu/faculty/fulltime/Calabresi/Calabresi.html) and co-founder of the premiere conservative legal organization, The Federalist Society, who previously backed Rudy has now endorsed John McCain. In an e-mail to me he explained:
I have endorsed Senator McCain and think he would be an excellent president because he is tough on foreign policy, committed to spending restraint which is the key to small government, and because he has consistently voted for good judicial nominees in tough fights like Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas. I am not troubled by his role as a member of the gang of 14 because I think the compromise he forged got us cloture on Roberts and Alito and produced three excellent lower court judges: Bill Pryor, Janice Rogers Brown, and Priscilla Owen.
Conservative legal scholar and former Solicitor General Charles Fried, another ex-Rudy supporter, also informed me that he “immediately, readily and enthusiastically switched to McCain” after Rudy dropped out.
He is free tp support whomevere he chooses. It won’t influence me to support Mc Caine.
I don’t care what Mc Cain says he is going to do or will do. I know what he has done.
For the better part of 8 years Mc Cain has pi$$ed in the faces and sh** on Conservatives.
I dont know about Federalists But military Hero’s and the like are endorsing him. Are they all nuts too?

McCain is a liberal bastard and I’d prefer a crash test dummy to him. God forbid he become the Republican nominee. He has sponsored liberal bills with the likes of Kenney and Feingold, wants to suppress talk radio, (free speech), is rabidly pro-amnesty, and he is no friend to the millions of true conservatives in this nation. With McCain Conservatives would get maybe 10%.

McCain also has as an advisor Warren Ruddman who gave us David Souter.

Here is a partial rebuttal...
1. McCain has already backed down on the WOT. He wants to close Guantanamo (and therefore try enemy combatants within our judicial system as if they were common criminals). And he opposes a tried and true method of interrogation (waterboarding) by making the ridiculous claim that it is torture. Someone needs to ask that nut why it is not okay for enemy combatants to be “tortured”, but okay for our own Special Forces (they are subjected to waterboarding during training).
2. There is no way McCain would nominate a true conservative to the bench since a true conservative would declare the McCain-Feingold legislation (aka, the Incumbent Protection Act) to be unconstitutional.
3. McCain supports embryonic stem cell research, and he tried to get a pro-life group silenced since they were at odds with his precious Incumbent Protection Act. Some pro-lifer...
4. McCain will stay popular as long as George Soros wants him to be popular, which will be no more than 5 minutes after he wins the nomination. Then the Soros Media will be after him like white on rice.

As far as McCain understanding threats to the country, well he ought to, he sees one everytime he looks in the mirror. McCain will protect us from Iran, while surrendering our soverignty to Mexico.
