Really, these are the most talented kids you’ve heard?
I guess that’s what prompted you to post the vanity.
More power to ya.
Ashamed of your yankeeness?
"As long as the Union was faithful to her trust,
Like friends and like brothers both kind were we and just;
But now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar,
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star."
Churchill had it played at his funeral, in part as tribute to his mother, who was an American. I saw it live, one of the first programs transmitted by satellite to American TV, in 1964.
WOW, what goose bumps!!!!!
Anyone that’s AMERICAN should love this.
It they don’t, then they should go back to where they came from.
ROTFL. I didn't post this.
You're not doing much for the Southern Cause here, sweetheart. But, bless your heart anyway.
Thanks for the ping.
I loved the music, the choir, the pictures, the sound, the patriotism. It was awsome! Thanks for the thread, RTH!
It never occured to me to relate it to the Civil War. What’s that all about? We are fighting another war now, and we need to be together, or we’re in very serious trouble of losing more than could ever have been imagined in that war over a hundred and forty years ago.
Com’mon, guys. Let’s try to stick together here. I’m not talking Kum-Bayah stuff. I’m talking the U S of A. It’s our country! Not Yanks vs. Confederates, or North vs. South, blacks vs. whites. It’s up to each and every one of us to fight for the sovereignty of this country. We can only do that, if we band together.
BTW - FWIW, I was raised and educated in the North, now live in the South, and after a trip accross the country a few years back - if I ever relocate, it will be in TN, MS, NC, SC, or GA. The people there have open arms and good cookin’. (Not that the North doesn’t have good cookin’ or good people!) There are very special things to love about the North AND the South.
Let’s together, hold up our country - in any way we can. (Any flaming will be pointless. I have on my flame retardant FReeper suit.)
No. Quite frankly, I'm ashamed that folks like krb are attempting to represent Americans and are making the rest of us look uneducated and unable to deal with basic comprehension skills.
Good point, Alcy. Didn’t realize you didn’t instantiate this odd festival.
Hey man, don't blame me for your shortcomings. I hate to go Dr. Phil on your ass, but my light-hearted fun with this Battle Hymn thread is NOT responsible for making you look like a rube. You need to figure that one out on your own.
Don't worry, we'll be there for you.
You are doing a pretty good job on your own. His euphemism is more sophisticated than your gross vulgarity.
I’m guessing you meant instigate but whichever, I’m out for the night. Sweet dreams, President Davis.
I hate to go Dr. Phil on your ass
You guys kills me. 'Night.
Once you have slept it off...I meant what I said:
Again, lady, lighten up.
Seriously, lighten up. We are taking a collection up for you. We are going to get you laid. I promise.
Wow. The only time I got a standing ovation was when my high school’s ROTC unit sang that very same song in the 60’s. Beautiful.
yorkie, thanks for your thoughts... I appreciated so many positive reactions to this. This version stirred an emotional response in me that reminded me of our nation’s leaders joining the choir singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic after W’s great speech at the National Cathedral that Friday after 9-11-01. The chill I felt that day will be something I’ll never forget.
Thanks, Cicero... See my post number 55 for a recollection of another great version of this great song.
Reagan’s funeral should bring to mind “Mansions of the Lord” and “Jerusalem”
Not this stuff. We did better by Reagan.
On 9/14/01, my friends and I hung up a brand new giant American Flag that I had bought months before at a garage sale. It almost completely covered the 2-car garage door. The ladder shook, as we tried to secure it to the structure.
(We aren’t young whipper snappers, you know.)
Once the flag was in place, something happened. A breeze came out of nowhere, and furrled that flag. We all just stood there, in amazement. One of the ladies started singing..........and we all joined in, tears streaming down our faces..........
“My Country ‘Tis of Thee, Sweet Land of Liberty, of Thee I Sing”:

It was one moment in my life that I will never forget!

Julia Ward Howe did write “let us die to make men free.”
But yes, it is one of my favorites as well.
