Seven good reasons to support Mike Huckabee [be sure to read reason number seven]
The dark and jumbled recesses of my aging feeble brain | January 31, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/31/2008 2:09:25 PM PST by Jim Robinson

My friends, I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a quandary since the Real Conservatives ® Thompson and Hunter dropped out of the race leaving us to to place our bets on one the four headless horsemen. But after having a day or three to sort it all out, I'm beginning to see a ray of hope.

Number one, my worst fear that the pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun social liberal Rudy Giuliani might be nominated, and thereby bring an abrupt and unholy end to the pro-life conservative movement within the GOP has been allayed. His evil culture of death platform has been soundly rejected by the Republican voters. Thank God! If nothing else is gained, that alone is a huge victory for us!

And that leaves us with the unwelcome slippery task of having to determine and select the least evil of the three remaining RINOs. But wait! When choosing between evils, why not choose the good?

McCain is insane and there are many good reasons not to choose him, but I'll list just five: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, the Keating 5, and the Gang of 14. No thanks. McCain is out!

Romney ran on a pro-abortion platform, is pro gay rights, is prone to BIG government solutions, promises anything to anyone for a vote, and flip-flops on important issues. Can't trust him.

Now Governor Huckabee. Could this be the good vs evil? He's a Baptist minister. A genuine 100% pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, Southron Christian social conservative!

And that would be my reason no. 1 to support Huckabee. He has the trust and backing of the Christian evangelicals and the support of the Bible Belt. You cannot win the presidency without the South, and I believe the pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South. And that's a pretty darn good reason!

My number two reason is that he is NOT McCain (and that's a pretty darn good reason too).

Number three (and this will be a tough one for a lot of my FReeper Friends) is that he is NOT Romney.

Numbers four and five are he's NOT Hillary and NOT Obama. Oohrah!

Number six, he plays a mean bass and he's a traditional favorite at Free Republic's infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls in Washington, DC. Perhaps we could persuade President Huckabee to drop by our ball and perform his rocking rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama!" Now, wouldn't that be a hoot!

Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.

Woo hoo!!

Let it ring out through grassroots America and on to the convention! Support life! Support the GOP! Support Huckabee! And re-draft FRed Thompson!!

Never give in, never give up, and never lose hope.

Long live the Reagan Revolution!

Arkansas Freepers tried to warn people about Clinton. This forum listened to them back then.

This forum didn't exist back then.

Good point. He’s no northeastern liberal. Not a yankee bone in his body.

Riddle me this, over the past thirty years, name every great president and every bad president?

Every bad (or just plain terrible) president has been from the south, every single one of them. The only great president we've had in the past thirty years was, Oh my God, born an Illinois Yankee.

It's time to get on board with the next Ronald Reagan before we get McCain thrust upon us. We both know the disaster he'd be for conservatives and the Republican party.

BTW, I'll vote for any Republican which wins the nomination. Which means only McCain cannot get my vote in November.

Please post a link to the Reagan video where he campaigned on the culture of death platform:

Until you can provide the evidence, I’ll thank you not to sully the Reagan reputation in a vain attempt to bolster an abortionist candidate.

The GOP may have been fiscally conservative, but they had a hard time winning until the Reagan revolution. Be honest, even Obama understands that.

Reagan gave a perfect balance to the plate for all the factions. As we speak, they are all out there trying to pretend that is what they are.

Truth is, we know they are all pretending, none of them mean it, that is why the lack of faith and trust in the GOP field.

Reagan conservatives are no fools. They know when they are being led to the gallows. I believe people are weary of being told to shut up and vote.

We have too many ways to communicate anymore for the fools in government to think they can snowball us.

Example: I talked to my 75 year old parents today and asked them what they know about McCain. All they knew was his war stance. When I informed them about the real McCain, they were astounded. I guess McCain lost two more votes today.

Jim, I just watched that 5minute video for the third time. Every time I watch it, Mitt Romney’s sleaziness gets more obscene! He really should run as a democrat. His multiple choice position is so indicative of the amoral democrats! The alive unborn of other families than his own mean absolutely nothing to Mitt Romney beyond how he can manipulate their demise to serve his empowerment. And that is what the democrat party has stood for since 1970! In the video he repeats that he will not change the existing laws which allow the slaughter of alive unborn human beings. 1) If he thought he could change them, why would he if he’s a conservative not try to do so; 2) If he thought he couldn’t change them, why use it as a wedge issue to weasel his way into being elected? Satan better hope Bill Clinton and Mitt Romney don’t end up in Hell with him, they will make his existence worse with their flipping and flopping and deceit and pandering to usurp the most low position.

I'm not sure a brokered convention will happen. And since I'm from Arkansas, I guess I'll just shut up about who I am going to vote for..

Be well..sw

“With all due respect, the Huckster’s views on immigration show that he is NOT pro-America.”

Well, did you think McCrazy is better on the borders?

If not I have a great big clue for you. McCrazy will win outright on Tues unless Huck has a good showing in the states he runs strong in.

Romney is toast in all the southern red states and McCrazy is going to win all the big blue states.

Romney is finished everywhere but Utah.

If You don’t want McCrazy then Huck it the only one left to slow that down.

Check some of todays polls. McCrazy is up 15 points and will win everywhere that Huck isn’t winning.

After last night, I think Huckabee is the only one who has any chance. I know he’s hated on this forum, although I’ve never been quite sure why. He’s certainly no more liberal than McCain or Romney in any area, including immigration, and a good deal less liberal in social areas than either one of them.

I don’t understand it, frankly. It’s the level of hatred that puzzles me.

Did you vote for President Reagan or was this single issue a deal breaker for him as-well?

Unfortunately, none of our options have good immigration records.
-——————————————————————————>

Well, I think Huckabee is the only one raising taxes and using my money to send Illegals to school, while doing nothing to further the education of real Arkansas folks.

He may as well anoint Little Rock as an Amnesty City, IMHO.

How can illegal immigration be THE major concern of almost every American yet Jim support Huckabee?

3 More reasons and I’d be looking for the stone table coming down the mountain side.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered you were the author of this post!

Chucklebee gets on my last nerve.

And, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool evangelical conservative who voted for FRed.

IF point #7 would come to pass, so that FRed would be back in the mix, then I could support the huckster. Otherwise, I consider the huckster to be no better than cartbilly or clintbilly.

They are all dopes who give us no hope.

Free Republic has no official position other than we are for pro-life and liberty conservatives and against abortionist liberals and RINOs.

Welcome to the nightmare.

Please, stop hurling the ‘hate’ word around. The Mormons have worn that one out accusing those opposed to Mormonism as ‘hating Mormons’. Give the word a rest awready!

That is the LAMEST reasoning I have ever heard. No wonder this country is in the mess it’s in. Huckabee is unelectable! Can’t you get that through your thick head? He is a spoiler at this point. Romney is not the ideal candidtate but he is far better than McCain and you are not going to get your ideal candidate this year. Romney and McCain are the only two that have a chance. Pick the least offensive. Forget Huckabee. He’s a nice guy, but not ready for prime time. Hope, Ark, doesn’t help him either!

I wasn’t trying to question who you were voting for or not for. I was taking disagreement with your premise that the Republican party was not conservative to begin with. It most certainly was conservative, as the party was formed by Christian Abolitionists. The abolitionists were most certainly SOCIAL conservatives. They wanted to change a few things they didn’t like that was going on in our nation at the time.

They came together primarily to force SOCIAL change, not economic.

Would they be happier with McCain’s record on abortion?

No, I think they will go home, unless Dobson or someone goes 3rd party.
