Giuliani drops out of GOP race, backs McCain

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Rudy Giuliani dropped out of the Republican presidential campaign on Wednesday and endorsed Sen. John McCain for the nomination.

Giuliani made the announcement at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library a day after suffering a debilitating defeat in Tuesday's Florida primary.

With McCain at his side, Giuliani said the nation needed "someone who can be trusted in times of crisis."

"Obviously I thought I was that person," the former New York mayor said. "The voters made another choice."

He noted that he and McCain had managed to compete without running negative ads against each other and said, "We will remain friends." He said he would campaign for McCain as much as the Arizona senator wanted.

Once the Republican front-runner, Giuliani finished a distant third to McCain and second-place finisher Mitt Romney. After the results, Republican officials had said Giuliani would endorse McCain, who also picked up an endorsement Wednesday from California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity in advance of the public announcement.

Please stop with the polls predicting winners 9 months out.
Its nonsense.

Hillary will beat McCain like a drum
I was backing Fred, as well, but when he dropped out, I voted for Mitt to blunt McCain’s surge.

My offer to bet real money that those polls will be proved wrong extends to you as well.

If you actually believe that polls 9 months out have any meaning at all then there is a bridge in NY that you can buy. - After all, you are buying one now.

NORMALLY, you’d be correct, polls 9 months out mean little. But we’re talking about Hillary and McCain, two KNOWN quantities. The odds that a bunch of people will wake up in October and suddenly love Hillary are LONG. It’s even more unlikely that my DEMOCRAT neighbor, who voted for Kerry and Gore, but who tells me that he’d vote for McCain will change his mind by the election. It’s an unusual situation here, we’ve got two candidates who most Americans know right now.

This is why the Dems are terrified we’ll actually nominate McCain.

The Dems will be delighted. Its win win.
you can’t put a piece of paper between his positions and those of most dems.

BS bill.

1. Iraq
2. socialized medicine
3. spending
4. judges
5. (surprisingly) taxes

I could move a rather large building between the dems and McCain on these. Also, don’t kid yourself, the top of the ticket effects the races lower down. Can you say cloture proof Senate? Would you like more or fewer conservatives in Congress? Think about it.

4)Demands an end to waterboarding - so does hillary.
5)Wants terrorists to have access to trial in America. - so does hillary.

"Sorry jpf, your post is bullshite." Oh, well allow me to retort!

Your post, oddly enough, looks like a piece of Clinton speak, since you say much, but do not in anyway address my main points. It’s all the usual anti-McCain talking points and nothing more. Let me dumb it down a shade for you.

1. John McCain will win the war in Iraq, Hillary will surrender!

2. John McCain has no record of appointing judges, but his voting record is clear and there is NO DOUBT that his judges will be more conservative than Hillary’s.

3. Hillary wants to raise taxes, McCain wants to make the Bush tax cut permanent.

4. John McCain has a record of voting against spending, and Hillary?

5. Hillary wants socialized medicine, McCain does not!

Clinton will lose the war, raise my taxes, and get the government in on my health care. No thanks.

You can say that McCain isn’t the ideal, and I’d agree, but I’d have to blind and drunk to think there’s no difference between him and her majesty the Jr. Senator from Arkan..., er ah, New York.

FOX NEWS seems well informed.

To: Mr. Giuliani
You were called the mayor of America.
You don’t care what happens to your country as I once thought you did.
You told your delegates to support Mr. McCain. You personally, dislike Mitt
Romney. So much for country.
McCain will do nothing good for America. He supports amnesty, no permanent tax and he cares for the veteran vote but as soon as he gets it so long veterans. How will he choose judges? He says one thing but does another just like his buddy Kennedy. TRUSTWORTHY? As a fox guarding a hen house.
McCain is nothing but a liberal,

WHAT DOES THAT MAKE YOU?

If McCain does get elected I will make his life a living HELL unless he helps his country.

I did not say that the polls had any meaning, merely that the political forecasting on this site is not something that I would put much stock in.

You are right of course, Rob.

Sorry for sounding a bit snippy. Long night. 8^)
BTW, does 777 have any meaning, or is it just a number to add to your name?

At least there’s some good news to report here; we are done with the Rootybots this election cycle. I wonder what they think of him now?

I see 7 as a number representing completion, as in "By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done." I would like to see the work of the Reagan revolution completed.

He had to defeat communism, inspire Americans to believe once again in the American Dream and role back the welfare state of FDR. Two out of three is not bad. The problem is that, with the political success of the Reagan coalition, many conservatives gave up on the efforts to role back the welfare state of FDR.
