Lou Dobbs alert: Illegal immigrants may get rebates

In their bipartisan zeal to quickly cut a deal on an economic stimulus bill, GOP lawmakers overlooked something that will certainly inflame the conservative base _ illegal immigrants could receive a tax rebate check from the government.

Illegal immigrants may get rebates

I don't understand how this can be. Aren't the rebates tied to 2007 income tax? And to file income tax one would have to have a Social Security number. If someone used a SS number illegally, wouldn't the rebate go to the legal holder of the SS number even if the holder did not file (Understand some low income just don't file). The address might be a problem, but the name would be the legal holder of the SS Number. If an attempt to cash a check should be caught by the person cashing the check and identification should be required. Some might slip through, but majority would not.

If a fake SS number was created and the illegal person filed an income tax, the system should catch it. If the SS system is so defunct that it did not catch it, then they probably would rebate and we can't blame the illegal for a poor SS system. And the illegal SS number would not file unless they earned enough to file in the first place.

I'm totally confused. Enlighten me!

Where i live my line is......I am more likely to be killed by an illegal while driving to the grocery store than a terrorist attack.

Overlooked? Yeah, sure. It was intentional. The great giveaway in DC knows no bounds. At least, in the past, it was only to citizens—but no longer. Now I guess you’re racist or xenophobic if you insist that only citizens can vote or collect taxpayer-funded benefits—or that laws apply to illegals.

The ones getting the rebates will not be fake SS#’s. Illegal aliens can file for an ITIN. That way they can legally be paid and file taxes. Doesn’t mean they are working legally however, it is still against the law to hire them. Illegals with ITIN’s will receive the rebate checks. I have read there are about 1 million of them.

I know—I have 4 young kids but my P/T income plus my husband’s income barely reaches the $150,000 threshold—and so we are phased out.

There is a big difference between a couple with 4 kids making $150K (in CA, high cost of living) and Bill Gates!

This pisses me off so much, but I’m not even going to say what I’d really like to, because I don’t want to get banned.

It’ll get serious when we say ‘no more’ and decide to do something about it.

Maybe before the year 3030.

I have a much better headline than that: PEOPLE WHO DON’T PAY TAXES MAY GET “REBATES” (but not the evil, tax-paying rich).

Osama Bin Laden is our enemy and he may indeed be hard to locate hidden away in some cave far far away. But the enemies of this country who are within our borders are easy to find, and it usually starts with that treacherous lot know as the United States Senate, save Jeff Sessions who is the only Senator with common sense and a moral conscience.

If we taxed the billions of dollars that are wiretransfered to Mexico, we’d at least keep SOME of that money circulating in our economy.

It's seriously time for the Peasants with Pitchforks to storm the Bastille (Washington DC). This is freaking absurd and it gets more outrageous every day. Our politicians are either too incompetent or too self-important to care. The number of truly honest ones is extremely rare.

This is the dark underbelly of the clearly not so non-violent invasion of our country by tens of millions of illegal aliens.

It's not just that the pols are not doing anything about it...they are actively abetting and supporting it and trying to pass legislation that will enhance and increase it to all of our detriment.

They just have to have their "North American Union" of some sort or another. McCain has a Hispanic Outreach Manager on his staff who is a dual citizen and former cabinet member of Pres. Fox of Mexico who openly seeks an absolutely open border and for Mexicans in this nation to thin think of their homeland, Mexico, 1st and foremeots over the US.

Yes...it is high time...past time...that we route these vipers out of their positions of public trust and representation. They have violated their oathes and are, in fact, IMHO, traitorous to our nation.

Hey, amnesty is like that. We provide the tax money to encourage illegal immigration. By the way, some of these employers of illegals aren’t withholding for federal taxes or social security. So the rest of us get to pick up that bill, as well.

This entire amnesty thing is convincing me that our “representatives” in Congress don’t really care about American citizens.

In fact, it’s gotten so bad that there are some good reasons to support a new party.
