If McCain is the nominee, the Republican Party leadership may not see much of a revolt expressed to it directly, but I can tell you they will see it expressed in some maner.
I will be glad to join any former Republcans who wish to get signatures to put a new party on the State of California ballot starting in 2010.
By 2012, we should be a good part of the way to replacing a party that has basicly said - - to those of us who have supported it our whole lives.
After Super Tuesday, I will be registering as an independent. I think it would be a great idea if tens of millions of us did the same thing.
Those of you who want to vote this fall, could still do it. It sure would send a message though.
If their registrations dropped by 75% or so, it would send a very powerful message, even if folks did wind up voting for the RP nominee this fall.
I won’t be, but others will obviously feel compelled to do so.
BRAVO!
I will be doing the same!
I wish I had a ping list. ;o)
I don’t think we’re ever going to get away from the two-party system, so I don’t think your idea will work. I like the concept of it, though.
I think the biggest way to hurt the leadership is in the pocketbook. If contributions drop off, they might finally get the picture. I, for one, am going to tell the RNC the next time they call me for a contribution that until they pull their heads out from the huge behind where they currently are embedded, they won’t get another cent from me.

but mccain does well with independents...
“After Super Tuesday, I will be registering as an independent. I think it would be a great idea if tens of millions of us did the same thing.”
I will think about it for the moment, but I believe I will also change over. I wanted to vote for Fred, but that didn’t work out. Unlike some, I would have no problem at all in voting for Romney. Frankly, I think the guy would have worked his tail off and been a better president than many on this forum seem to think.
I am 59 years old and have been a Republican for all of my adult life. Today, I no longer want to be identified as such. Should McCain win the nomination, that would be the last straw for me.
If McCain gets the Republican nomination I will no longer be a Republican and I will be more than happy to be part of a new CONSERVATIVE Party!
IMO, the way to “send a message” at this point is to campaign all out for Romney, the outsider, the mainstream conservative that the establishment Republican candidates are aligning against. It couldn’t be more clear; Romney is our big chance to save the GOP. He has the best immigration record, has become pro-life, has an outstanding judicial advisory team, knows how to cut the D.C. bureaucracy, will not tolerate spending and understands the supreme importance of the War on Jihad Terror.
All is NOT lost, not over. The opportunity is in front of us NOW to nominate and elect Mitt Romney.
Going independent is worth your while. That way your vote is never taken for granted.
I don't doubt your conservative credentials, but does dividing the conservative party into smaller pieces seem reasonable just because a few RINOs fail to live up to our platform?
The only way your proposal would have any chance of success would be if the libs (i.e. the mentally ill) undertake a simultaneous symmetrical split of the liberal wing without dipping into our base of voters.
