It has been some time since the 1996 Elections where a Bill Clinton won re-election over Robert Dole. While Dole was a leader in the Senate and in many ways a decent guy he would never have been the first choice of people on the right. However, it seemed that it was "his turn" and that he was somehow owed this opportunity.
He could not have been a more lack luster candidate.
Are we to get the same from McCain? The field of candidates does not impress most on the right...but least of all do I see McCain being the one to sweep us off our feet in any general election.
Actually, McGovern came to mind.
“I live in north Florida and like most here cant stand McCain. I voted for Romney. That being said, my take on this is that if Romney could only pull in 31% of the vote in a Republican primary here then he would be simply unelectable in the general election if nominated.”
That’s a bit unfair to Romney in that McCain won huge in Miami-Dade on the backs of Crist and Martinez endorsements, and got the Cuban community to go huge for him.
I dont think pro-amnesty spanish speakers represent the GOP base overall. If you take that factor out, Romney won the rest of the state.
You could turn it around - McCain won *only* 36% of the vote. No way can he be a credible nominee with those showings. The nominee needs to be a majority consensus candidate.
RINO MCCAIN DOESNT FIT - VOTE FOR MITT.
First things first...do you own a crackpipe?
It's incredible to me that anyone could really believe that. You believe the media who has been shilling, gushing and pushing John McCain down our throats for weeks really wants the Republican Party to win the POTUS again? Tell me you are just kidding and that you really don't believe that garbage.
No, not Bob Dole, for all the good it did, I actually voted for “it’s his turn” Dole.
And the conservatives really like Crist after his actions this weekend.
I see him as a less acute Nixon, actually and Romney looks like a less consistent Ford.
Yes and no. Mostly yes because McCain is an elder Senator who will lose — even without Perot taking some of the vote.
Partly no because he’s got a lil more oomph than Dole and will debate a bit better.
But a loss is still a loss. For us, for the Supreme Court and for the next 30+ years of the tenure of those Justices (appointed by HillObama).
YES YES YES !!
Now we have a REPLACEMENT Stalking Horse for McCain in Huckabee.
McPain is not much different from Hillary and very good friends with her , truly .
Who is this guy??? He comes onto FR (*the* forum for conservatives) and then tells us what to think and also insults us. Unbelievable. Hopefully he'll run along back to wherever he came from.
“Bob Dole is at least a very nice, honorable man.
John McCain aint no Bob Dole.”
YES, exactly.
MCCain is not someone conservatives can trust or like. McCain said on Sunday that he *would* sign McCain-kennedy if it came for his signature. He kicked conservatives to the curb many times before and would do so again.
We have in Mitt Romney the most dynamic and accomplished major candidate in many years, who is running on a unifying conservative campaign, and who wont sell us out on immigration or these other issues that McCain has betrayed us on, and promises to betray us on again in the future.
RINO MCCAIN DOESNT FIT - VOTE FOR MITT.
You must have brain damage from all those wedgies you endured during your adolescent years.
McCain's loss will rival the defeats of McGovern and Mondale.
I'm afraid you're right.
Romney will be a far superior candidate to defeat Hillary.
Dont make the mistake of validating amnesty for 12 million illegal aliens. A vote for mcCain is a vote for amnesty!
I agree.
Open borders, more lost jobs, yep thats why I want McCain.
I was a “good republican” who sucked it up and voted for Dole - a decent man but a lousy candidate. I hated doing it and I hated the result of our poor choice.
I’m not interested in repeating that mistake again, especially if it’s for a POS like McStain...
