As I've written elsewhere, social moderates and liberals with a twinkle in their eye for John McCain are living in another universe. Anti-choice and anti-LGBT signaling are an overt part of his campaign. Here, via Jonathan Martin, is the text of a McCain robocall, recorded in a woman's voice, that rolled out in Florida yesterday:
Im calling with an urgent Mitt Romney [unintelligible]
We care deeply about traditional values and protecting families. And we need someone who will not waver in the White House: Ending abortion, preserving the sanctity of marriage, stopping the trash on the airwaves and attempts to ban God from every corner of society. These issues are core to our being.
Mitt Romney thinks he can fool us. He supported abortion on demand, even allowed a law mandating taxpayer-funding for abortion. He says he changed his mind, but he still hasnt changed the law. He told gay organizers in Massachusetts he would be a stronger advocate for special rights than even Ted Kennedy. Now, its something different.
Unfortunately, on issue after issue Mitt Romney has treated social issues voters as fools, thinking we wont catch on. Sorry, Mitt, we know you arent trustworthy on the most important issue and you arent a conservative.
Paid for by John McCain 2008.
On another note, this call is proof that Republicans are willing to bank on Ted Kennedy's ability to act as a scarecrow to the base. Could Kennedy's endorsement of Obama end up hurting Obama's appeal to Independent and Republican voters in a general election?
I dare not think about a McInsane Presidency.

To all, Please stop McCain.
We all knew Rush would be great today. RUSH: Stop caring who the media likes. Screw them!
Truth hurts.
Hey, if McCain wins this, Ron Paul is my new guy. I really mean it too.
But I thought McCain believed the family values crowd were “agents of intolerance”.
IE Fairness Doctrine.
That’s only when they vote for the other fella.

seems true enough
I always enjoy watching one severly flawed individual beat up on another severely flawed individual for being severely flawed. While these two duke it out, I’ll be right cheer with a vote neither one of them will ever see.
Hey McCain, if Ted Kennedy is so scary, why does your name appear right next to his in the illegal immigrant amnesty bill, McCain-Kennedy?
Like a chick fight. You don’t want to break it up, rather sit and enjoy the show.
Now that was funny. Good one.
While I regret some of you may be annoyed by what you feel is spamming this message on campaign threads, it is an important message on a key vote which needs to get out. Therefore, I've got to go with the overwhelming majority who is supportive.
George Will is voting for Obama judging from his recent articles.
I personally wish Fred had been using these RoboCalls.
I predict we’ll be hearing a lot more about McCain’s “right-wing smear tactics” if he becomes the nominee. I wouldn’t count on McCain’s moderate/independent support to hold out once the media gets done portraying him as a foaming right-wing attack dog.
No kidding. I hardly think this statement of undeniable fact about Romney’s past statements is a dirty trick. These are all important social issues, and therefore fair game.
