The end of the Romney Campaign
World Net Daily ^ | January 29 | Janet Folger

Posted on 01/29/2008 6:40:55 AM PST by no dems

Finally, there is a conservative answer to MoveOn.org: RoeGone.org, as in Roe v. Wade – GONE. Nice, huh? What's even nicer is the ad they're launching to expose Mitt Romney's record. Be looking for secular conservative pundits and compromising pro-lifers to jump the Romney ship soon. No kidding. I predict this thing will signal the end of the Romney campaign.

Unlike the other ads that have been done on Romney that primarily focus on his flip-flops on abortion, marriage, gun control, immigration, taxes, pornography etc., RoeGone.org's ad clearly delineates Romney's record as governor – which is very appropriate since that's exactly what Gov. Romney said we should do. I was there at the debate last week when Romney responded to the flip-flop accusations with the words: "I can point to a very simple way to find out exactly where I stand, and that is look at my record as governor."

Let's do that, shall we?

As governor, Mitt Romney issued an executive order forcing justices of the peace to perform homosexual weddings, or resign. Then he ordered marriage licenses changed to read "party A" and "party B" – instead of "husband" and "wife."

As governor, Romney appointed a board member of the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association to the bench, and appointed more Democrat judges than Republicans.

As governor, Romney authored and signed a mandatory heath insurance plan backed by Ted Kennedy – including taxpayer-funded abortion on demand.

As governor, Romney overruled his own health department and forced Catholic hospitals to distribute the morning after abortion pill.

Homosexual marriage?

Tax-funded abortions?

Catholic hospital morning after pills?

Homosexual activist judges?

"Look at my record as governor."

Romney has conistently been against gay marriage. He has stated such, and acted accordingly...though certainly not nearly as strongly as you or I would have done. But he did not "institute" gay marriage in MA, the Supreme Court of MA did that and he worked to get a measure on the ballot to overturn it.

I know that quotes and actions by him can be pulled where he took positions both of us are vehemently opposed to. but he has admitted that he was wrong on those positions and is now saying something different...and his campaign is based upon that change. I will support him as my 3rd choice against the others in the field, both GOP and DNC. I believe he will be the one we buy the most time with, the one who can best prevent either Hillary or Obama, and one who may just remain true to his new found statements.

It's disgusting and bad that we have been put into such a position...but given that position, given the current candidates, given my own research and the views of people I personally know and trust, particularly in MA...I have decided to support Romney over the others...McCain, Huckabee, or Guliani.

Others feel differently and (many for the same reasons I espouse) will reluctantly support one of the others as their 2nd, or 3rd choice. That's their perogative. I have voiced mine.

Tancredo endorsed Romney mostly because of Romney’s record on illegal immigration. If you care about that issue, then I hope you will vote Romney too.

If moveon.org is against Romney and for McCain then that makes it absolutely clear that we need to nominate Romney.

Romney catches illegals working for a contractor on his property and warns the contractor instead of simply calling proper authorities not once but twice.

BTW I don’t care who Tancredo endorsed, he’s a good man but not an idol.

You assert to judge people you don't know in the least with such a broad brush...and that's always dangerous.

BAH! it is simpler to see than it is to say- The two biggest binding agents in our party and in Conservatism are the sanctity of life and the 2nd amendment. When we have reached such a level of moral turpitude that these, even these are "on the table", then we are all but defunct. Damnation is waiting in the wings. That it is even a consideration in the minds of anyone is utterly despicable.

Of those left in the race, my view is Romney is the best stop gap, will buy us the most time, will have the best chance of preventing Hillary or Obama

Romney hasn't a chance in hell of winning, and everyone must know it is true. What Republican has ever won without the support of the Christian (Pro-Life) and the 2nd Amendment factions?

The "bait and switch" in this campaign has always been a matter of distraction. Distract attention away from the most qualified and deprive them of air. The most qualified are being removed by attrition, and in the exact order of their qualification: First Tancredo and Hunter, the most capable by anyones standard, then Thompson... All removed by deprivation and distraction.

To see who is next most qualified, one need only calculate who is next to fall, by the simple observation of who is being deprived of air.

What is remarkable, to say the least, is how easily the only means of changing that has been sullied. There can be no grassroots or grassroots revolt when the main engines of the grassroots fire have become compromised. Y'all are being played.

I do not believe Romney will renig on abortion or gun rights when he has straight up said we he has said in this campaign. But, if he does...he will still not go nearly as far as an Obama or Hillary.

The lesser evil argument. Very popular, but false all the same.

[...] when the good choices have exited the race, then buying them more time is better than turning them over to a much worse and more imminent threat.

The paramount threat is liberal control of both sides of the isle. Our ideology loses when we can no longer offer opposition. If the champion of the Sanctity of Life and the 2nd Amendment lays down his sword, then who will be left to defend us at all?

Better to support the TRUTH, even on a long shot. That is why I am backing Keyes, as he is the only one on the board defending what we believe in. If not him, we lose regardless at this point. But in that case, with integrity, the high moral ground, sound character and determination, we will live to fight another day.

he did not "institute" gay marriage in MA, the Supreme Court of MA did that

Perhaps you need a refresher course in basic civics. Since when can any court legislate or execute any law?

Anyway, the court did NOT overturn the marriage law. It did NOT order the Governor to do anything. What it did do is admit that NOTHING could change unless or until the legislature CHANGED THE LAW. Which they did NOT ever do.

Mitt Romney instituted gay marriage with no compulsion or legal or constitutional authority to do so.

… since I'm just a poor stupid country boy, I think I'll stick with Mitt…

Poor? (I doubt it…at least in world terms). Stupid? (Well, everybody’s got a “testimony”)

Gee Mr. all-knowing, cam I have your autograph?

Why would you want an autograph of “just dust” like me when you can get one from some mere mortal about to ascend to godhood?

(Imagine Hillary or Obama or McCain or Huckabee belonging to some fraternal lodge where they taught that in 30-something degrees, you, too could ascend to godhood…think they would get a free pass from the MSM & from FReepers? Not on your life! But boy, slap a “religious revelation” to it, and suddenly, it’s off-limits)

But even though you are misdirected as to whom on earth is the real alleged all-knowing one, let’s take a look at the Myth tucked-away “playbook”—the one he didn’t discuss in early December in his “Faith in America” talk.

Here, I’ll do it in a pieced-together after-the-fact Q&A interview format for ya, to make it easier for ya:

Q.Six generations ago, Mr. Orson Pratt, you converted and baptized the forefather of Mitt Romney the same year as the Book of Mormon, did you not?

A. Indeed, my brother, Parley P. Pratt.

Q. And what are your life-long credentials in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

A. I was the first to write and publish an account of Smith's famous "first vision," and he authored one of the earliest confessions of Mormon doctrine, which Smith later used in composing his own "Articles of Faith." I edited the Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, The New York Messenger, The Seer, and The Prophetic Almanac, the latter consisting of astrological observations, folk wisdom, theological essays, and one of the first LDS statements that humans could become gods. [Source: Signature Books, publisher of The Essential Orson Pratt]

Q. Ah, that’s interesting. You were editor of one of the first LDS statements that humans could become gods?

A. "...men, through obedience, attain to the fullness of all knowledge and become gods...they exist first as spirits, then as men clothed with mortal flesh, then as gods clothed with immortal tabernacles." [Source: LDS Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 130, 1853.]

Q. You mean “gods” as in a god who is worshiped?

A. "In the Heaven where our spirits were born, there are many gods, each one of whom has his own wife or wives which were given to him previous to his redemption, while yet in his mortal state. Each God, through his wife or wives, raises up a numerous family of sons and daughters; ...for each father and mother will be in a condition to multiply forever and ever. As soon as each god has begotten many millions of male and female spirits ...he, in connection with his sons, organizes a new world, ...where he sends both the male and female spirits to inhabit tabernacles of flesh and bones. Thus each God forms a world for the accommodation of his own sons and daughters... The inhabitants of each world are required to reverence, adore, and worship their own personal father who dwells in the heaven which they formerly inhabited." [Source: LDS Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 37. ]

Q. You say each of these worlds have their own gods. How far back do these begetting gods go?

A. "We were begotten by our father in heaven; the person of our Father in Heaven was begotten on a previous heavenly world by His Father; and again, he was begotten by a still more ancient Father, and so on from generation to generation, from one heavenly world to another still more ancient..." [Source LDS Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 132, 1853.]

Q. So God is just an exalted man, eh?

A. Well, look at Brother Smith’s own words: "God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted Man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens. That is the great secret... It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the character of God and to know...that he was once a man like us. Here, then, is eternal life--to know that only wise and true God, and you have got to learn how to become Gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all Gods have done before you. .. God himself, the father of us all dwelt on an earth the same as Jesus Christ." [Source: Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 342-345, also quoted heavily by the church, see Gospel Principles, Chapter 47]

Q. So this is a prime teaching you would like to leave as a legacy for the future generations of your family?

A. Why, yes. [And sure enough, he’s right…just look at what Marion G. Romney, cousin to George Romney, taught: We all know that like begets like and that for the offspring to grow to the stature of his parent is a process infinitely repeated in nature. We can therefore understand that for a son of God to grow to the likeness of his Father in heaven is in harmony with natural law. We see this law demonstrated every few years in our own experience. Sons born to mortal fathers grow up to be like their fathers in the flesh. This is the way it will be with spirit sons of God. They will grow up to be like their Father in heaven. Joseph taught this obvious truth. As a matter of fact, he taught that through this process God himself attained perfection. From President Snow's understanding of the teachings of the Prophet on this doctrinal point, he coined the familiar couplet: "As man is, God once was; as God is, man may become." This teaching is peculiar to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ."] [Source Elder Marion G. Romney, General Conference, October 1964]

Q. Who originated this idea that you could become a god?

A. See Joseph Smith’s King Follett sermon yourself: The scriptures say it, and I defy all the learning and wisdom and all the combined powers of earth and hell together to refute it. Here, then, is eternal life—to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all gods have done before you, namely, by going from one small degree to another, and from a small capacity to a great one; from grace to grace, from exaltation to exaltation, until you attain to the resurrection of the dead, and are able to dwell in everlasting burnings, and to sit in glory, as do those who sit enthroned in everlasting power. And I want you to know that God, in the last days, while certain individuals are proclaiming His name, is not trifling with you or me. [Source: King Follett sermon, History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 302-317]

Q. Oh, and BTW, Just in case one of your brother’s descendents should happen to run for a major public office or something, could you tell us your position on “theocracy?”

A. The kingdom of God is a theocracy. And as it is the only form of government which will redeem and save mankind, it is necessary that every soul should be rightly and thoroughly instructed in regard to its nature and general characteristics.

P.S. Other evidence this is still mainstream LDS teaching: "The doctrine that God was once a man and has progressed to become a God is unique to this church." [Source: Official LDS Lesson Manual, 1997, page 34, "The Teachings of Brigham Young"]

I’m still waiting for Newt to save us. Looking at this gaggle of loons, most would have to admit he was the best choice. Even the Newt haters would have to reevaluate. I think many figured Hunter, Thompson, or Tancredo would be in the top spot before Mc Romney or Huckabee. Poor Rooty, remember he was the savior according to the MSM just a few weeks ago. Newt would have beat them all. Now we have to choose from a Mass liberal or a RINO turncoat( with Lieberman VP) that won’t even waterboard the enemy to save America from atomic attack. I hope the Newt haters like President Obama or Hildabeast. You got what you wanted.

The GOP will deserve to lose for nominating any of these four stooges.

No argument here but---

We have to remember, WE-- not a bunch of men in a smoke filled room-- are the GOP. One of the biggest problems, IMO, is that New Hampshire, one of the least conservative states in the union, has too much influence determining "front runners" because they vote early.

It will be pretty much determined by the time we get to vote in TX and we are one of the most conservative states--NO statewide elected Democrats. (except our governor who is a Democrat in Republican clothing)

Everybody I know had planned to vote for Fred; are now voting for Romney.

Beware of groups that come into existance in the last 3 months just to attack one candidate.

Pro-life has been a serious battle for well over 30 years now. Anybody launching today doesn’t care about babies, they care about politics and attacking a candidate.

You may just be the first person I’ve met to describe Paul as a socialist.

He's a moral equivalence pacifist, but he is the least socialist politician of our time. I'm down to Huckabee and Paul, and after today, I'll probably be down to Paul.

Oh well, America needs to surrender to God and the people before we can finally defeat our terr-ist enemies anyway.

We need a whole GOP caucus in congress full of Ron Pauls.

No he hasn't. He has either maintained his leftist position, or has carefully spun you.

He still supports an assault weapons ban. You're going to vote for that?

He still thinks it's okay to kill "unwanted" embryos. You're going to use your sacred franchise to endorse that?

He also thinks states' rights supercede the unalienable right to life.

When unalienable rights have been alienated, what exactly do you have left of America?

“Romney catches illegals working for a contractor on his property and warns the contractor instead of simply calling proper authorities not once but twice.”

Could it be that Romeny’s a personally nice guy?

Who cares. The point is as governor of Mass., Romney vetoed in-state tuition for illegals and opposed allowing illegals driver’s licenses and other government benefits and has pushed for English only.

I think you should look at Romney’s record. Or would you rather end up with McCain?

Oh no...I did understand the full context of your quote and had no problem with the first part.

I doubt he would defund troops in the middle of a battle zone.. I can't say that about some other candidates...

I agree, he most probably would not defund the troops as long as everything was done his way and the anti-war nuts were unable to gin up more resistance. My concern is far more than that.

Please take a few minutes to examine his real record HERE and HERE...scrolling down to the "History" section.

Another place to get information on what I am referring to would be HERE!

He has admitted to being wrong on a number of issues now that he is running for President. He reminds me of the jailhouse conversion who finally “sees the light.” He’s an ultra liberal now trying to sell himself as a conservative.

I call BS. Where’s that dang BS meter when you need it? It probably exploded trying to keep up with the Romney BS.

I keep hearing that, but have yet to hear anything but he treated his ex wife bad( which is a lie, BTW). Is his baggage worse than McCain Kennedy, or McCain Feingold? How about queers marrying, or, .....oh well, I’ve had this conversation before and got no answers, so I doubt you could come up with anything worse than balancing the budget and the Contract for America. I would have voted for Thompson, but He’s gone.
