McCain's ACU Ratings Randall Hoven
Senator John McCain's lifetime rating of 82.3% from the American Conservative Union is often cited as proof that he is conservative. Here is a closer look at that 82.3 rating.
First, a rating of 82.3 is not really that high. It puts Senator McCain in 39th place among senators serving in 2006, the latest year for which the ACU has its ratings posted online. For that most recent year in particular, McCain scored only 65, putting him in 47th place for that year. Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE), for example, scored 64 and 75, respectively, in 2006.

He’s like a .300 hitter who mostly gets singles with two outs, nobody on, and the game already in the bag.
His batting average with runners in scoring position is nowhere near as high.
ACU rating for 2006 of 65.
Ouch. That’s going to leave a mark.
I wonder how many Republicans would consider nominating Ben Nelson as the GOP candidate.
McCain is all media created Cult of Personality, no substance.
Chuck Hagel has a higher rating. ROFL
He is the guy who said we were fighting the Viet Nam war all over again....Cut and run guy.
And I have heard this rating cited by people time and again. So much for the rating...it isn’t a good one.
He is the guy who voted against the Bush tax cuts TWICE.
That cannot just be swept under the carpet.
His campaign methodology is CLINTONESQUE...LIE LIE LIE and hope the sheep believe you.
Off Ann Coulter’s page
BEST QUOTE ON MCCAIN: -
“McCain seems to believe his wartime heroism entitles him to an unlimited moral bank account that he can withdraw from whenever it’s in his self-interest to do something dishonest.”
McCain, if you want to be sold out for a day on TV.
It doesn’t seem to matter how many times McCain’s increasing liberalism is pointed out, there are those who simply refuse to acknowledge it.
Is it the sympathy thing about being a P.O.W.?
That is not a reason for vote for a man.
Seriously....
He is not much different from Hillary...or Teddy
I wonder how many Republicans would consider nominating Ben Nelson as the GOP candidate.
A choice between McCain and Nelson would be a tough choice in some ways. Actually I am shocked that Nelson received such a low score. I thought he would be in the low 70’s at least. It seems like he votes with Republicans a lot.
“And I have heard this rating cited by people time and again. So much for the rating...it isnt a good one.”
Michael Medved for one. I was extremely disapointed in his show defending McCain last week.
Oh I know. Michael has lost his mind.
There is no way one can defend McCain’s record as being conservative. I really do think governors make better Presidents. People inside Washington have too many bedfellows....
McCain just isn’t up to the job. He is a ranting hothead, too.

I am no big fan of McCain, but his celebrity comes from being a “maverick”.
I think that about 1/3 of the voters are GOP, 1/3 are Democratic and the other 1/3 are third party, or independent.
That independent streak turns a lot of people on. They just don’t pay attention to the other details, i.e., his voting record.
Senator McNasty is my favorite nickname.
Sympathy for McCain must be the reason for his support. Or ignorance.
It’s the third that are GOP that are troublesome.
Medved is a moron.
“Troublesome” is a kinder word than I would have chosen.
And an open borders advocate to boot.
