Daily Pundit Recommends: Write In Fred Thompson for President
Daily Pundit ^ | January 26, 2008 | Bill Quick

That’s the sum of it. If you can’t bring yourself to vote for the offerings in your primary, or if the eventual nominee is somebody you can’t stomach, don’t sit out, and don’t vote for the Democrat. Write in Fred Thompson’s name.

Why?

By doing so, you send a message that can’t be mistaken or spun. It is a message that says:

“I am a Republican who wanted to vote for a conservative GOP candidate, but wasn’t able to do so. I can’t vote for a Democrat, but I can’t vote for any of the Republicans, either. So I’m writing in the name of the candidate I wish I could have voted for, because he is the kind of candidate I could support.”

They have to learn that if they want conservative votes, they have to nominate candidates conservatives would want to vote for.

This strategy is the only one that offers any hope of changing the leftward move of the GOP in the future. Sitting out won’t do it - they can spin the reasons why you sat out. Voting Democrat won’t do it, they can spin it that the GOP candidates weren’t liberal enough. Even voting “None of the Above” won’t do it, because that doesn’t specify what you want instead of none of the above.

I’m pretty sure that if this notion starts to get traction, Fred Thompson will publicly oppose it. Don’t worry, and don’t listen to him. This isn’t really about Fred Thompson. It’s about the future of the Republican party. Fred ran because he hoped to influence that, but he failed. Now it’s time for the rest of us to take a crack at it.

So remember: Just write in Fred Thompson’s name when it comes time to cast your vote. (There’s nothing stopping you from writing it in for other offices, either).

And ignore all the squalling that you have to vote GOP because it is marginally less evil than the Democrats. Given the rate of decay we’re seeing now, even that won’t be true (if it really is even now) in a couple more election cycles.

I just hope the Democrats and the Republicans that think they have to agree 100% with a candidate don't give my Country and my family Hillary for President.

It's not the voters. It's the GOP.

They gave us Clinton.

Twice

They Gave us Governor Arnold Kennedy

They gave us Linda Chavez

They gave the House and Senate to the Democrats.

Like Reagan said about the Democrat Party, I didn't leave them, they left me.

"It's not the voters. It's the GOP.

No, no, no. It's not the GOP that gave us the Clintons, they were elected twice by the voters not the GOP. Bill was elected tice with less that 50% because of the 3rd party voters.

Someone decides they want to run. They run under their party. A series of elections by the voters give them the delegates they win according to the votes the voters gave. Delegates are earned through the votes, and the winner is then elected. The voters do decide. People are elected in this Country, the GOP does not place people into office. Voters vote people into office. Blame the GOP all you want, people are elected by the voters, not placed by the GOP.

Liberal voters don't need to agree with their candidates 100% to support them. We throw our own overboard because we only agree with them on 7 out of 10 issues. Want better candidates to run in the GOP???? Well me too. Decent people seem to want to go out and make a good life for themselves and their families and leave the sewer of US politics to power hungry sharks. Its a shame, but we must choose from whom we have. Want someone you agree with 100%? Run for office yourself, its the only way you will.

If you want to think the voters did not give us the Clintons twice, you are very wrong.

"Like Reagan said about the Democrat Party, I didn't leave them, they left me."

If by that statement you are saying you are no longer part of the Republican Party, then get ready to welcome the alternative.... A Hillary (or Obama) White House with a Democrat Congress. That is your choice, one of the two parties will occupy the White House next year. 2009 will be here, no stopping it, and one of the two parties will hold the Presidency, and the VOTERS (including you and I) will choose, not the GOP.

Did the voters give us Dole for a nominee, or did the GOP because it was his turn?

It's not just the GOP, it's the dems too. And voter fraud.

How many illegal votes do you suppose we have had since motor-voter and also Clinton sending out 10's of thousands of voter registration certificates to illegals? That they took to the polls and it showed that they were legal voters.

That got us close enough vote that Gore and the chad-obsessed liberal almost stole the election.

OK, yea the voters to some degree.

Are you familiar with the shenanigans that went on to get JFK elected in the sixties? It wasn't the voters, it was voter fraud.

Bob Dornan ran against Chavez in Calif, and several hundred illegal votes were documented.

Which meant it could have been rectified. The GOP decided not to back doing the right thing. So the GOP got us Chavez, a La Raza supporting liberal democrat.

Did the Calif GOP get behind the conservative running after Davis was thrown out of office? No, they got behind a liberal with an R after his name, Arnold.

The Calif GOP at their convention last spring were all but anointing Guilani and fawning over him.

Oh and BTW thanks for the info, but I know how the process works. And it's broken.

There is someone behind the curtain.

My point is that the conservative base seems to be pretty fed up with the GOP pushing them out of the party.

And the clinton machine and the dems are getting pretty good at manipulating the vote and vote tallies.

Thanks for your response.

I have worked and supported Senator Lugar in every senate race up until now. Have no intention of supporting him this time around. Have been disappointed with his support on several issues in the past but he was better than the alternative. Not this time! His support for amnesty finished any support from me. Will probably get kicked our as a county committeeman when I tell them I won’t support him but so be it. They will have to kick me out because I won’t resign.

I don’t blame you. None of these 51 deserve to be re-elected and that includes John Kyl, of whom I was previously a big fan.

"Thanks for your response."

Your very kind in light of our earlier conversation. This is a very important issue to me I am passionate about, so please excuse my sarcasm mixed into my message. I do disagree with certain points you brought up and agree with others. I hope we can all strategically unify to keep Hillary out of Office.

I’ll write in Fred’s name in November. And I’m not a member of what you call the “GOP stupid party”. Best to do the right thing and vote your conscience.

I think dialog is important even when people disagree on some points.

Good talking to you and hoping for the best.
