Microchips Everywhere: a Future Vision
Associated Press (Washington Post) ^ | Jan 26, 2008 | Todd Lewan

Posted on 01/26/2008 8:35:43 PM PST by dayglored

... _Microchips with antennas will be embedded in virtually everything you buy, wear, drive and read, allowing retailers and law enforcement to track consumer items _ and, by extension, consumers _ wherever they go, from a distance.

_A seamless, global network of electronic "sniffers" will scan radio tags in myriad public settings, identifying people and their tastes instantly so that customized ads, "live spam," may be beamed at them.

_In "Smart Homes," sensors built into walls, floors and appliances will inventory possessions, record eating habits, monitor medicine cabinets _ all the while, silently reporting data to marketers eager for a peek into the occupants' private lives.

By placing sniffers in strategic areas, companies can invisibly "rifle through people's pockets, purses, suitcases, briefcases, luggage _ and possibly their kitchens and bedrooms _ anytime of the day or night,"...

...anyone from police to identity thieves to stalkers might scan locked car trunks, garages or home offices from a distance. "Think of it as a high-tech form of Dumpster diving,"...

Then there's a 2001 patent application by Procter & Gamble, "Systems and methods for tracking consumers in a store environment." This one lays out an idea to use heat sensors to track and record "where a consumer is looking, i.e., which way she is facing, whether she is bending over or crouching down to look at a lower shelf." ...

Big Brother isn’t the Government, it is Walmart.

It’s not my vision of a free country. Don’t think many people see this as a positive change. Don’t worry, with everything there will be ways around this kind of stuff.

Oh, come on guys.

As RFID chips get cheaper and more common, so do RFID scanners.

I would be quite happy to buy/rent one that would allow me to find the fool things and destroy them.

So why do they always send out most of their product offerings on an Opt-Out basis instead of Opt-In? I trust her like I do Michael Moore!

I'm not sure that's an improvement...

Not after OUR government makes it illegal to circumvent the RFIDs that are embedded in everything you wear, drive, eat, drink...

Can't happen here? See "DMCA" and how OUR government, acting on behalf of the RIAA/MPAA, made it illegal to bypass any device that implements copyright protection. They even made it illegal to talk about it or publish articles on it.

Yessir, we've got the best government money can buy.

The marketing of microchipping is rooted in gradual introduction and desensitization. Get people used to the idea enough that they stop thinking about its real danger. Show that it is “helpful”. (I mean who wouldn’t mind their every move monitored, think of it as your own reality series.)

And those who don’t go along will draw attention to themselves and will be permanently labeled as “non-cooperative” and “problem consumers”. Those who don’t chip their child will be considered negligent and turned into CPS. It’s not hard to see where this is all going.
