The GOP in Atlantic County was stll getting much of the black vote as late as the 1970’s. It might be easier to turn them around than the 3 generation black Dem voters elsewhere in the north.

The few whites who have stayed in the DEM party are the Fritz Hollings type dems, mostly farmers and those who simply could never pull a GOP lever. These whites are the ones filling up all the private school academies in the rural areas of SC. Not surprising result at all.
