"I'm encouraging folks who believe in the principles Thompson espoused to vote for Fred and vote for his delegates," said Senate Republican Leader Mark Norris. "I still think that's the clearest choice."

If Thompson garners more than about 20 percent of the Republican vote in the primary, his delegates will be sent to the GOP convention and could play an important role.

I hope Tennessee goes for Fred. Fred would've won Louisiana.

So, what happens if people choose Fred, who dropped out of the race, and his delegates go to the convention, and Fred goes ahead and offers his delegates to McCain?

Fred Thompson will likely hand his delegates over to McCain. That will be a punch in the stomach for most Freepers here who supported him. So let's rally around the one man who has a snowball's chance in hell of keeping the White House in GOP hands this year - Mitt Romney.

Mitt is It.

I wasted my vote for Thompson in early voting. Oh, well.

I agree Mitt is the best choice of what’s left, but I disagree that it’s obvious Fred would throw to McCain. His campaign has been VERY obvious with their interest in the VP spot and McCain CAN’T put another “grumpy old man” on his ticket. OTOH, Thompson PERFECTLY compensates for all Mitt’s strategic weaknesses.

I think it’s a good idea to empower Thompson with some leverage so the Mitt sees the clear advantage of putting Fred on his ticket.

I wasted my vote for Thompson in early voting. Oh, well.

You voted for the most qualified and best conservative candidate on the ballot. You didn't waste your vote.

You didn’t waste your vote. You voted for the only viable Conservative. Voting for a liberal RINO like Rudy McRombee, now that’s a wasted vote for any Conservative.

I do not have a candidate in this race, and may ignore that office in Nov.

However, I think Fred supporters are in for a very big surprise!

“I think it’s a good idea to empower Thompson with some leverage so the Mitt sees the clear advantage of putting Fred on his ticket.”

If Fred gives his delegates to his good friend, John McCain, the traitor, then McCain will be the nominee, and Joe Lieberman will probably be VP.

Nah, maybe he’ll go pc, and choose Olympia Snowe.

It’s only wasted if you do it in the general.

You didn’t waste your vote. Fred was and is the best choice. As for all of those rushing to Romney it illustrates they don’t know him very well. I don’t see McCain, Romney, Rudy or Huckabee as being the better choice. I think Fred heads should either vote for Fred or vote for the underdog in every race.
The goal should be to keep all of the “front runners” from winning the prize outright.
