The radical Baptist church known for picketing the funerals of American soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq has announced that they intend to protest Heath Ledgers stateside memorial service because he played a gay character in Brokeback Mountain.
You cannot live in defiance of God. He (Ledger) got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it's OK to be gay, said Shirley Phelps in a statement sent out by the Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church.
The only compelling reason to ignore Westboro Baptists reprehensible intentions is that highlighting the vast inappropriateness of their thoughts and actions only brings the church more publicity. However, if the members of Westboro Baptist get to speak their minds, every individual who feels that this is an affront to most basic standards of human ethics should be able to as well.

“Of course, the bottom line message is this: right wingers are terrible people. “
These particular right wingers need to get a life.
That “Church” is mostly Democrats. They raised money for Gore, and I think the head whackadoodle got photographed with Gore...
This is off topic of post, but I am flabberghasted that this person who is just an actor is receiving.
I would much rather hear stories about our brave troops, what sacrifices they did than this guy. Bless his heart, Ledger is dead, but aside from being an actor which I doubt is not really that hard, his impact on my life is minimal.
These ones are terrible people.
Hell, they’re not even “right wingers.” The founder of the “church” is a pal of Al (Gore).
WBC-ers attack our military —especially at their funerals when their families are so vulnerable— every chance they get. THAT’s right wing, i.e., conservative? Not to me it isn’t.
How many people make up this so called church?
What about hate the sin, not the sinner?
If I were running things, any of these treasonous apes showed up in a mile radius of a soldier’s funeral...immediate execution.
“Bless his heart, Ledger is dead, but aside from being an actor which I doubt is not really that hard, his impact on my life is minimal.”
That’s our media of today. If not Ledger, it would be somebody else.
Americans are more concerned about who got booted off the island from Survivor than important issues of the day.
Hmmmm an interesting debate question for preacher Huck ... what do you think about your fellow clergy, the Phelps.
This ‘church’ was going to protest a soldier’s funeral in my small town. Fortunately some bad Montana weather kept them away, so the motorcycle gang that showed up didn’t have to.
They absolutely disgust me.
Phelps ping.
This VILE family are GORE SUPPORTERS!!!
The sad truth is that groups like this group give true conservitives a bad name.
Being an actor is extremely hard work.
What did he die of?
Initial autopsy was inconclusive.
