HUNTER ENDORSES HUCKABEE FOR PRESIDENTFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 23, 2008CONTACT: Gary Becks (619) 334-1655Washington, D.C. - - - Congressman Duncan Hunter, who withdrew his candidacy for the Republican Presidential nomination on January 19, 2007 , today endorsed Mike Huckabee."I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America's industrial base.""Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.# # #

The way I figure it, Dunc figured he had to endorse *somebody*. The four remaining being equally horrible, he put the names in a hat and Huckabee’s what came up.
Oh big deal...you’re certainly a fair-weather fan.
What a bunch of unproven BS. He said he was against Romney because a company that was ressurrected by Bain Capital (and then sent on its merry way) had done some questionable dealings with China. Hunter was probably right that the company was less than patriotic but at the same time he showed no proof that Romney had a hand in the company's sale because - tada - there wasn't any. The standard that Hunter had created for Romney was one where any action by a company saved by Bain, Romney should be held responsible even when he had no role in whatever "bad" decision was made. That was when I stopped holding my "Duncan is really solid but he's just not getting any traction" assessment.
1) He Raised Taxes as Governor in California
The Washington Post | Mar 8, 1967 | By Sydney Kossen :
SACRAMENTO, March 7-- Gov. Ronald Reagan, who has made austerity in government his watchword, will propose a record state tax increase of almost $900 million Wednesday.
2) Hes Soft on Iranian Terrorists !!!
The Washington Post | Sept 14, 1980 | By Edward Walsh :
Republican presidential nominee Ronald Reagan said last night that the United States should agree to virtually all the new demands of Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in return for the prompt release of the American hostages.
3) His own Aides say Hes UNQUALIFIED !!!
Ex-Aide: Reagan Unqualified
The Washington Post | Feb 6, 1976 | By Lou Cannon :
President Ford's embattled Florida campaign is gaining a new lease on life under the direction of a former Ronald Reagan campaign manager who believes that the California ex-governor is "totally unqualified to be President."
4) Hes Indecisive and cant run a Campaign
The Washington Post | Feb 29, 1980 | By Margot Hornblower :
John P. Sears, the spurned Machiavelli of Republican politics, yesterday drew a portrait of Ronald Reagan's campaign as an operation plagued with incompetence, internal rivalries and an indecisive candidate, unprepared on the issues and insulated from the problems on his staff.
5) Even the Democrats are MORE SERIES about border control than Reagan !!!
Wetbacks Curb Asked by Mondale
The Washington Post | Apr 17, 1969 | :
Sen. Walter F. Mondale, DMinn., complained yesterday that thousands of Mexicans illegally cross the border daily to compete for U.S. farm jobs. He said he had dressed in old clothes and gone incognito to watch them cross.
It’s down to McCain or Romney. Most of us supported other candidates initially but those two are who’s left in any serious way. Since McCain is unacceptable that leaves Romney. And when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration Rudy, McCain, and Huckabee competed with the democrats to see who could be more liberal. Romney on the other hand was pretty tough, and in a liberal state.
That may be true. The two are miles apart. Hunter is another
Senator Bob Smith, write him off.
Guys, I am telling ya...the most conservative man left in this race is Mitt Romney. And he ain’t bad.
I was going for an electable conservative, and thought long and hard between Fred and Mitt.
I liked Duncan’s ideology...the ABC News “where you stand” quiz on contemporary issues put Duncan, Mitt and Fred in my top 3 “matches”.
Fred is gone, so is Duncan. I urge you to just look at the “issues” section of Mitt’s web site. What you’ve heard about Mitt being a liberal just isn’t so.
Good luck, and I’m sorry your guy isn’t in it...but I hope we can agree to defeat John McLame.
That guarantees a Democrat victory if he does so.
I know Duncan Hunter, and have been proud of him before.
But I have never been prouder of him than I am today. I got goosebumps when I heard the announcement on Fox.
He is a man of principle and integrity. UNCOMPROMISING principle! UNCOMPROMISING integrity!
It is obvious this is not going to win him fans. But that has never mattered to him before, it doesnt matter to him now.
The problem is not with him. It is with those who do not know him.
What a man. God bless him!
Maybe Huckelberry Hound offered Duncan the Sec Def. position if he supported his campaign, politics as usual........
The fact is we don’t know any of these candidates outside their political life. Hunter may know these men personally and know them in a different way than we do. At the same time, Hunter may be a different man than his voting and media perception. I would bet, (hope), it is the former.
I think it would be courtesy to ping him.
I had always thought politics came from the Greek word poli (meaning many) and ticks, meaning blood sucking parasites.
I don't have any idea what you are trying to say to me.
The 'true conservatives,' the ones who gave Duncan the cold shoulder from day one... Who somehow made him into a second Fred Thomson thinking that would get them the 'social-conservatives' vote, are just pi*** off and desperate.
The idea is simple, by smearing Duncan, they smear Huck... Duh :)
I was just watching Dan Abrams (which I normally don’t do), and he was saying that if a candidate doesn’t invite the media along on the campaign bus, plane, etc., there’s much less media coverage. Since Hunter had very few funds to begin with, that may be one of the reasons he was covered so little. That, and being a conservative, of course.
Man in the coonskin cap wants eleven dollar bills and you only got ten.
Apparently, Duncan Hunter is not a real conservative after all. We’ll see what Fred Thompson does. If Fred endorses McCain, we’ll know he was a phony conservative all along, too.
I would be more heartsick (about Hunter endorsing Huckabee) if I thought it really means votes away from Romney but it’s such a small number that I think it doesn’t matter.
Huckabee is an old friend to FreeRepublic but he is more liberal than most democrats so I have lost all respect for Hunter today.
Hunter jumped in bed with the liberal media in their hatred and shunning of Mitt Romney. Any guy who is hated as much as Romney is by the MSM is my kinda guy.
Romney, BTW, was great on Hannity & Colmes tonight. Absolutely wonderful. I am so proud to support Mitt Romney!
Go, Mitt!
