Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

Hunter was never a “conservative” look at his votes on NCLB, Medicare D, Flake Amendments, RSC alternative budget, etc, etc.

Hunter is a corrupt career politician and I am glad I can finally say it here on FR."

That could be one reason Hunter endorsed Huckabbe, they are both big government types. What I don't get is that the candidate that is the most against illegal aliens endorsed the liberal Huckabee that is for illegal aliens so much he called those opposing Amnesty racists. I thought that was Hunter's issue , illegal immigration. Well , I guess you can't trust any of these politicians.

No conservatives are enthused with the current choices. Why vote for liberl lites?

However, this thread did move me to open a sodapop and enjoy the reading. Too close to dinner for popcorn..

Plus if Huck offered Hunter the secretary of defense role he may have figured that he would be able to counterbalance any weakness that Huck would have in this area.

You may want to read Michelle Malkin’s quick analysis on her blog, with which I agree.

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/01/23/hunter-endorses-huckheads-explode/

In essence, even folks who support Huckabee will have to agree that the two men have huge, huge policy differences, which is the reason why the endorsement is so puzzling.

As it stands now, I could hold my nose and vote for Romney.

I will not for McCain or Huckabee.

I do think Hunter owes his supporters some kind of explanation instead of cloak and dagger.

Sometimes cloak and dagger is required when it involves national security.

I think Hunter’s political career was over anyway, and the nonsense about encouraging him to get back in the race was utterly delusional.

All those who thought he’d make a great VP choice completely ignore electoral politics.

He’s done for sure now. Even his supporters want their money back.

I just got home. I’ve been thinking about this all morning, afraid Hunter might endorse Huck because of their baptist connections. And I think that’s just what he did. Hunter has come out against Romney the hardest, because of China/Bain. But that doesn’t hold water, they’re all in bed with the globalists. The difference is Romney, who is Mormon, and lots of decisions are being made because of religion and it STINKS to high heaven!

All my family were Baptists. I’m glad I never joined the church, it seems to be made of religious bigots these days. And they have the NERVE to accuse Mormons of it!
This kind of religion buddying up is too reminiscent of Islam tribal thinking and it’s disgusting.

How does someone have the 4 decade record of Duncan Hunter and be such a DUMB-——(fill in the blank)

To hell with this entire political/primary system, I want to see it go down.

I’m voting for Ron Paul.

getting behind nobody after losing Hunter or after losing Thompson, are reviled as traitors who are throwing the election to Hillary.

It's premature to say that at this point. Hillary has't won the nomination and there's no guarantee she will.

How come everyone regrets voting for Bush--even though the only other option was Kerry or Gore--but then they tell everyone to vote for Rudy or whoever the RINO is that's running?? You can't have it both ways, people.

Huckabee suggested he’d make Hunter his Sec of Defense. That’s part of this, too.

Yep, the one thing that obviously never occurred to you is that Duncan Hunter may know more about both the issues and the man than you do, and that his judgment is thus more informed than yours.

Yet Mitt Romney utters one or two little toss-away lines that everyone has equal rights under the US Constitution — and the response is TRAITOR FLIP-FLOPPER HOMO-LOVER LIBERAL LIAR LIAR!!

First off, I meant McCain to be the traitorous bastard. Romney would be with Giuliani in the gun-grabbing baby killer department. I said nothing about Homos at all, though I can if you want me to... And the same for flip flopping.

If the HUNTER-ONLY crowd wasn’t so sad, they would be laughable.

I resent your insinuation. I will vote for ANY Conservative. Just show me one and I will happily pull the lever.

I just don't vote for gun-grabbing, baby killing RINOS, and I certainly won't vote for the traitorous bastard.

Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee.
THIS IS NOT A SURPRISE.

Huckabee and Hunter where on the same page in every debate they where in together. Huckabee and Hunter come from the same conservative philosophical mold with the same foundational beliefs.

Duncan Video: Hunter/Huckabee stand up to Clinton/Corrupt News Network plant/Romney flip-flops on gays in military

Video Huckabee: There is nothing funny about President Hillary Clinton/We cannot be soft we must be strong and defeat Islamic fascism

HUCKABEE only mentioned one person for Secretary of Defense, DUNCAN HUNTER:
‘‘What you do,’’ he [Huckabee]explained, 'is surround yourself with the best possible advice.’ The only name he [Huckabee] mentioned was Representative Duncan Hunter of California. ‘Duncan is extraordinarily well qualified to be secretary of Defense,’ he [Huckabee] said.

"I just hope Fred keeps my respect and either endorses no one, or endorses Romney (or maybe Guiliani) is such a way as to make clear he’s only endorsing what in his judgement is the least of four evils."

Mr. Spectre just came home and said that if Thompson endorses Huckabee, we are leaving the GOP..

Hunter was able to examine his character, up close and personal in the heat of a campaign over the course of many months.

What a load.

The closest he got to up close and personal was sharing a stage for the debates, what few Hunter qualified for.
