Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

LOL. Huckabee's new campaign slogan:

He can fry squirrel so I don't see why he couldn't fry fish.

People who vote for Ron Paul in upcoming primaries are just repudiating the national party apparatus. They know this is the only way left to “Just Say NO” to the three remaining contenders, two after Jan. 29, when I think Huckabee will drop out. It’s just saying “No thanks” to what the Republican sheeple have given us.

Thanks for your post, CJ.

Every year he introduces it and it dies.

Yep, I knew that. No surprise there.

One of his main reasons for not voting for the Iraq use of force resolution was because of all the references to the UN resolutions. He instead issued a Declaration of War against Iraq so we could do it right, which was shut down quick.

This is but one area that others take his actions out of context. He wants the US to act in congruence with the Constitution and its mandates. Others in Congress do not. Again, no surprise there.

What is a social-Conservative you ask? :)

Uh...does it have to do with one's view on immigration reform? [/s]

That's where the hatred toward Huckabee originates...his pragmatic view toward the Hispanic flood and the NAFTA economy.

And that's where many fiscal and social conservatives come to blows.

The FISCON undertands small businesses' importance in a national economy, while the SOCON just wants to click their heels and make them gone.

Yeah, there’s nothing like trapping animals and slaughtering millions of chickens, turkeys, and cattle a year.

Welcome to America. The place where even the “Humane Society” helps put pets to death for which a home cannot be found, rather than letting them live.

In my book, it's fraudulent to run now as a strong opponent of amnesty, when he was not very long ago, in a speech before the National Latin American Conference, throwing out lines about "southern white guys being in the minority'.

First, a politician has to represent his constituency, and if it is largely legally Hispanic, then there isn't anything wrong with some self-deprecating humor. Second, how can something be a "fraud" unless you have a time machine and know he will do nothing about it? Is this the same thing as the Bush "lie" about WMD?

If the afore-mentioned demographic doesbecome a minority, it will have been the kinds of policies he advanced as governor

Governors do not control the INS. They do not control borders of this country. They do not control immigration quotas or requirements. The policies he supported were very minor towards children who had no say in coming here and had essentially grown up in the U.S. all their lives. The border has to be sealed first. Huckabee is the only one even promising to do that.

It is illegal to promise a job, including a v.p. slot or anything else, before one is elected.

Huckabee can fry both fish and game.

We don’t need a Constitutional amendment for the Right to Life simply because we have already ratified it, in the Declaration. However, the courts disagree, so we do have to spell it out for them.

If we needed to free slaves, we need to free innocents from being killed, too, via amendment.

We also have Nancy Pelosi. There will always be democrats and RINOs. An amendment will not happen as long as there are democrats.

I don’t have any idea, other than what he said, and Huckabee’s promises to follow through. If Huck has Hunter as VP, I may think about it, but we are a loooong way from that.

I have to say, I expected Hunter to endorse Huckabee when I heard that he was dropping out. They pretty much agree on every issue.

Duncan Hunter supporters: If Hunter had broken out of the bottom tier instead of Huckabee, talk radio and the ‘new media’ would have trashed him and called him a protectionist liberal just like they are doing to Huckabee. I hope you guys have enough respect for Hunter to take his endorsement seriously and give Huckabee another look.

“Watch a few more heads explode when Fred Thompson endorses McCain.”
That would include heads like mine.

Huckabee was the media darling after Iowa. John Edwards says McCain will be the GOP nominee. I don’t buy the media. I watched all but one of the debates and I didn’t like Huck’s answers or his one liners.

...The FISCON undertands small businesses' importance in a national economy, while the SOCON just wants to click their heels and make them gone....

I like those designations: FISCONS and SOCONS :)

I am a socon, what is it what you think i, we, want to do with small businesses?... could you elaborat a bit here?

Remember I, keep saying, we care about MONEY TOO! :)... MONEY IS IMPORTANT oh yes.... but is not the ONLY IMPORTANT THING, which is the impression I seem to get from the FISCONs :)

Just an aside, do you like LOU DOBBS from cnn? :)
