This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:
"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of Americas industrial base."
"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.
The Minutemen did not endorse. One of their founders did; It isn’t the same thing.
Yes, even my beeber is stuned.
How do you feel about Hunter now? I know you can’t stand Huckabee.
And I think you were the poster that recently said Romney and Hunter were seen on the trail a lot together, and that maybe we’d see a Romney/Hunter ticket.
Guess this puts an end to that.
At least FRed had the good sense to not endorse anyone, at least not yet.
No wonder Hunter went nowhere. His judgement appears to be less than perfect.
Bet he won't support the Huckster tho....:-)
Maybe Hunter wants to be Sec of Def in a Huckster Admin.
You bet. I didn’t see this coming at all. Huckabee doesn’t exude confidence in me most especially in foreign affairs. Another Jimmy Carter I’d suspect. Regardless of who he would place as SECSOS I don’t think he would go without tinkering.
Frankly, with him and Thompson gone, what was he supposed to do with so many foul choices?
It goes to show he’s at least anti-hypocrat.
“I do find it interesting that Hunter considered Romney “disqualified” from his endorsement because Mitt’s former company is doing business in China, but he’s A-OK with endorsing a nanny-state Christian Socialist.”
Totally agree...I saw hunter on cavuto the other day when he said this and I scratched my head on it, for sure.
Oh well.
Go Romney!
And I’m voting Tuesday (not early) in Florida, as is most everyone else I know, and we’re all going for Romney.
Unfrigginbelievable! Hardly knew, ya, Duncan.
Let’s see, even if half of his supporters followed his advice, that’s 0.15%... hahahaha. This guy is such a loser.
“Somebody needs to run and check on Ann Coulter...the president of the Duncan Hunter groupie fan club. Take away her firearms.”
LOL. Ah yes. Humble pie is especially delicious with a heaping pile of irony.
Which terrible candidate do you think Hunter should have endorsed instead?
Huck did recently sign a pledge for 'No Amnesty' at NumbersUSA (if that counts for anything)
Hunter endorses Jimmy Carter! (same thing)
You said -”What on earth makes you so certain of this?? Hunter may be a conservative, but he’s been in Washington long enough to have plenty of the politician in him. It’s a very strange choice of endorsement, especially since Huck hasn’t been doing so well and is out of money.”
My Reply - this is exactly why this endorsement was not based on politics. If Hunter wanted political favors he would have sold his endorsement to the candidate who could offer him the most. Someone like McCain or Romney who was likely to win and be able to offer him a place on the ticket or in the cabinet. Instead, he burned his bridges in order to support who shares his views on Life, China, the 2nd Amendment, protecting marriage, and is now running on stopping illegal immigration (though admittedly Huckabee’s record in this area is not great.)
Yeah, Maybe Fred is smart enough to distance himself from McCain.
Hunter is not who I thought he was.
He was for sale to a phony.
Upchuckabee.
