s it Bigfoot? A Tusken Raider from the first "Star Wars" movie? Or just a rock?
British newspapers went crazy Wednesday morning about an image from Mars that appears to show a humanoid figure descending a shallow hillside.
The "alien" is actually a blurry detail in a huge panoramic photograph snapped on the edge of Mars' Gusev crater by NASA's Spirit rover in early November, and posted on NASA's Web site on Jan. 2.

No gaffi stick or Tusken cycler. Definately not a Tusken Raider.

I’d like to see the Mars Rover go up within 30 feet of the thing before I discount this totally. For some reason...its a odd-rock formation around the whole thing...which doesn’t match up entirely. I’d like to discount this entirely....but something says we need a closer peek at this. The Rover is running on our dime anyway...and I doubt it takes more than 24 hours for the thing to drive over to the spot and let us have a good shot of the rock (hopefully). If its not a rock...then 2008 will be a very painful year for some folks in adjusting to a new reality.

Ok. I have to say that that is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a week. That goes into my archive.

Given that the Rover is already well past its expected lifetime, any time/distance on that thing is considered pretty rare and valuable.
I doubt they’re gonna waste a trip that has speculative scientific value.
Besides, the mystery can only help support future remote and manned missions to look for “faces” and “people” on Mars.

That was my very first reaction. I wondered if someone had photoshopped bigfoot into the mas image!

Olympus Mons (MC) - The Martian Government today dismissed reports of strange multi-wheeled crafts that were apparently roving over the surface of Mars surveying the planet and collecting soil samples. Numerous witnesses have reported seeing the vehicles, and at least on witness claimed that the craft "Do not come from THIS planet!". A government official said, under conditions of anonymity, that an investigation into the sightings had concluded that what witnesses saw were actually weather balloons.

As badly done and cheesy as Martian Chronicles was, I still like it. I even have the DVD and soundtrack CD.
